Hello Bandster Babes

I Had My Surgery Back On 7/27 Everything Went Just Fine. I Started Eating Mushies About A Week Ago And Have Now Graduated To Soft Foods Like Fish And eggs. I Was Feeling Full For The First To Weeks But I Feel Like I Can Eat Endless Amounts. Is This Normal? I'm Going To See My Doctor Tomorrow Morning. He Told Me I Was To Stay On A liquid Fase Until I See Him. Should I Tell Him I've Been Eating Real food? ????? I Feel Full But Not Sick. I Felt So Horrible Just Drinking Protein And When I Started Solids I Feel So Much Better. I"ll Take Any Advise Or Suggestions. Thanks So Much For Helping.

That seems like an awfully long time to be on liquids (3 weeks post-op) but I know it varies by the Dr. I think the best advice is to always do what your Dr. tells you. You need time to heal, but I would be honest with my Dr. They are there to help you but it is hard for them if you don't tell them the truth, and I don't see that it would benefit you in any way.

It is my understanding that once the swelling in the stomach goes down from the surgery you will not really have restriction until you get a fill(s).

Good Luck!

Barbara

I Feel Like I Can Eat Endless Amounts. Is This Normal?

You are normal, you have not had a fill yet, the fills are what gives you restriction and make you eat less. The band was designed ot be filled to work at it's best ability. With no fill it is only normal ot be able to eat anything and everything in large quantities.

Yes tell your Dr. you were eating real food in the event something is not right with your band. ( which I m sure it is fine) The liquid phase is designed for you to heal and for your band to anchor in so it has less chance to slip. If you eat too soon after surgery you are at higher risk of slippage since the digestion process of real foods is a work out in your stomach with all the churning and turning it takes to digest.

That seems like an awfully long time to be on liquids (3 weeks post-op)

My Dr. required 3 weeks of liquids also he beleives it is very important for the band so set into place sort of anchor into place and have some time to build up scar tissues , makes it less likely for it to slip in the beginning.

I was also told that he first 6 weeks post op should not be about weight loss but healing. Any weight loss during the 6 weeks post op period is a plus! We have the rest opf our lives to lose this weght. It did not come on overnight and it is not going to come off over night either.

Hi Jennifer,

I had my surgery 2 wks earlier than you and i know what you are going through. i went thru that in the last 2 weeks. my dr told me it's normal, hunger pang is supposed to return! just be strong...if you do need to take solids..just chk w ur doctor...remember also: chew small and slow and don't overeat...u want to avoid vomiting. i believe it's the vomiting part that is bad - cos it may affect the band placement. i did take solid foods during time dr told me to eat blended foods only...but i tried to choose softer (and ask things to be overcooked) stuffs like risotto, if i am craving for toasts..i dip into hot choc. things like that. hope this helps...i did feel pain after my first time taking solids...so just be careful and talk to ur doctor...hope this helps...

This weekend I felt I need something more substantial. All I was on for the most part were liquids and I had 2 saltine crackers, it helped take those hunger pains away. And believe me two worked, I didn't need anymore than that. Also stay away from sugar as the sugar makes you crave the carbs. Also sugar-free popsicles are a life-saver for the sweet-tooth. Good Luck you'll be fine!!!!

I would not tell him. I made that mistake and i left my Dr.s office crying he was so rude and hurtful to me. I changed drs. I hope it works for you. I am just taking care of my self and I hope i never have problems. I go in for fills and that is it. I seem to be doing okay the fill dr said i am right on target for wt. loss. I have lost 36 lbs since march.

Hi Jennifer, I have dr. mun and I think the 3 weeks is too long also I am 2 wks

out and yesterday I tried egg salad and it went down fine. I can not drink

the Protein Drinks and am so sick of Soup. It didn't take much to feel full.

But I don't think I'm going to tell the dr. when I see him on the 25th. He was

very adement about no food just liquid until I see him again. Oh well.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
