This is Hard, but...

Recommended Posts

I'm going into day 4 in my 12 day pre-op liquid diet and suprisingly with sushi being my all time favorite food i havent had it in a while and i know i am going to miss it once banded (feb. 4th). So i was wondering will it be ok to enjoy a lunch hr of sushi to immediately start back my Liquid Protein diet the next day? i can work out extremely hard if its what it takes to burn it off, though sushi is not usually high in calories. I mean it's just one day, or one hr. rather. What do you guys think? i havent really cheated. but i guess i have considering i had a handful of trial mix both yesterday and today. I dont want any suprises on the day of surgery?

if your really dedicated to wanting this band then i would stick to the pre op diet you have been given, its for a very good reason why you are on it, It doesnt matter if others havnt had the same diet all docs are different, you would only have yourself to blame if they turned you away with a fatty liver from cheating..Its not worth it..

YOU CAN DO THIS..be strong, before you know it it will all be over & you can look forward to the new you..:(

I agree, stick to the preop diet. AND why won't you be able to have sushi again? If you mean those rolls with rice in them (not a sushi fan!) you may very well be able to eat them. How much restriction you have/need will be up to you. Right now I have 3 fills, 4.5 ccs in a 14 cc band, and I can eat rice fine. It isn't a "good" choice necessarily, but if I LOVED Sushi I could still have it occasionally. So don't assume you're giving up all the foods you love. How you look at food, how you eat, will change. What quantities you eat will change. But the odds are you will still be able to eat just about anything if you want to. You'll have more control over that part of it than you realize.

I agree, stick with it. There has not been any food that I ate pre-band that I can not tolerate now. Some things take more work than others and I eat a lot less but I am not missing out on anything. I see no reason why you would not be able to have sushi once you are back on solids.

I know its hard right now but you'll be so happy when you get through this. I too am a HUGE sushi FAN!!! When I was on my liquid phase one of the things that helped me get through it was miso Soup. I wasnt able to eat the things in it but I was able to drink the broth and that alone was satisfying for me. There is hope though....I just made it to my solid phase and I was able to eat a sushi. I got a roll that had a cucumber outside instead of the rice and inside it was tuna, crab and avacado. YOU CAN DO IT. :( Good luck friend. :scared2:

I love it all actually, and im worried that i wont be able to enjoy the sushi like i want to post-op like i would pre-op. I had no heads up, my date was set up approx. 2 weeks from me being approved. I love that it didnt take long but it bothers me that i was not able to enjoy a "last meal" like most. Nonetheless, i am ready, i am excited and i am detemrined...but if i were to have one last wish... lol.

thanx everyone for your help.

No, it is not actually ok. It is very hard, but you need to follow your doctor's instructions. It is not like you will never east sushi again after the band.

I am banded and I eat sushi once in awhile. I eat small bites of sushi very slow and I have no problems. So follow the pre-op diet so you don't have any surgery surprises.

P.S. I never went for the last meal sillyness.

You'll have plenty of sushi later.

Promise.

And that last meal thing isn't the best way to start a new process.

Sorry you didn't get the opportunity to have that ceremonial last meal, L.J. I know what you are saying, when I was at your stage I wanted--and indulged in--the Last Supper eating. At that stage I thought that once I was banded, enjoying food would come to an end so I may as well enjoy it while I could.

But that is not how it really is with the band. Yes we have to eat slower and take smaller bites but that forces us take time to enjoy the food more. No, we can't eat as much as we once did but we are satisfied on the smaller amount and I must say, I appreciate food more now.

join the club! Sushi is also my favorite food and I asked my nutritionist this same question at my consult. She said that bandsters can eat sushi post-op, but she recommends that we ask for 1/2 the amount of rice on the rolls to conserve calories and carbs.

Talking about sushi, my biggest barrier with it now is the nori paper.

So if you eat sushi no roll, or better yet sashimi which is straight up fish, you'll be back there in a couple of months post op.

The noodles and rice cause me grief though still.

Count your blessings re the last meal.... because of professional commitments I waited several months between deciding to have the surgery and having it.... and in those 5 months put on an extra 10lbs having lots of last meals!

You'll be able to eat sushi before you know it. I can eat anything, in moderation, which as far as I'm concerned is just the way the band should work. I would rather lose at a reasonable pace of 2 lbs per week than lose more rapidly but be saddled with numerous dietary restrictions.

Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
