Hi SKinny

Yes Mexico is very safe. We just had my husbands surgery there in Tijuana, Mexico on 12/30/2008 and It was very clean and safe. The hotel was very nice. We had a good time. We never had any problems since being home. We are going back to Tijuana, Mexico for his 1st fill in 7 wks. He can't wait to go back and neither can I. The Obeseity Control Center is OCC. We had Dr.Martinez do his surgery. Dr.Ortiz is the other surgeon that does them there too. For his 2nd and many more fills we are going to USA Fill center. I hope this can answer some questions. If anymore questions I will be happy to answer more for you.

If you're willing to travel over 2000 miles to go to Mexico (2090 miles from Chicago per google earth), you also might want to consider Dr. Tersigni at Bay Bariatrics in Coos Bay, Oregon (2341 miles from Chicago). Bay Bariatrics is a certified Center of Excellence and Dr. Tersgnin recently lowered his self pay price, in the surgery center, to $10,000.

I wish you success in your search.

I second Dr. Tersingi. He is wonderful and so are all his staff.

If you are going to go to Mexico, I would go to Dr. Alberto Aceves. He is a great surgeon at a very good price. The hospital he practices in is an extremely beautiful hospital. He advertises here and the ad is usually on the right. If you click on it, you can see pictures.

I was banded by Dr.Aceves in Mexicali on 12/27/08. I was extremely happy with my experience. Arrived the day before for pre-op, spent one night in a hotel, had surgery, then one night in the hospital. If you fly (I drove) they'll transport you to and from the airport and you stay 2 nights in the hospital. Total cost was $7,000. Must admit, initially there was no way I would go have surgery in Mexico but I had the luxury of driving down to check out the hospital and meet the Doctor ahead of time. Being a self-pay it just made more sense then the original plan of $17k in Los Angeles for 2 hours in a surgery center! Good Luck in your research!

Hi Danester

Thanks for replying I was wondering what was your cost???Where in chicago are you going to get fills???

hi Skinny

I'm in Ohio but going to fly back for the 1st fill in TJ Mexico. Then after that driving to a Fill Usa center in michigan which is close to us. You would have to call the OCC and ask them what there price is as the price is a confedenital privacy. I will tell you there pricing is very good and afforable or else we would not have gone that far at all.

Another vote for Dr. Kirshenbaum in Colorado. I flew in from NC for surgery with him. $9950 for everything and he is fantastic. Denver is also a great place to vacation. I vacationed there for several days before my surgery, then I deducted my flight cost for me and my companion, as well as my hotel stay the night before and after the surgery and part of my rental car expense.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
