Pre-Op Dietiers...last night?

Recommended Posts

Today is day 4 for my preop diet... I am on 3 -4 shakes a day and can have 2 cups of steamed or raw vegtables - --

Last night though...

I had a slice of turkey, a slice of ham, and...1 glass of champagne.

I am mad at myself, yet, also sort of amazed that, that was my only slip up! I will tell my surgeon, but am hoping that since I still have over 10 days of the preop diet I will be ok for surgery.

How did others do last night?

Today is day 3 for me. I get 2 shakes per day and 1 frozen meal (Weight Watchers or Lean Cuisine). I am sticking to it exactly and have the goal in mind. I am starving so trying to keep myself really busy and distracted. I've done a ton of projects already this week and making a list of more.

Hopefully I can ease your mind by saying that my surgery was moved up due to a scheduling issue, and I only had 10 days of my pre-op diet. My surgeon wasn't at all concerned about only 10 days. He said that sometimes he goes in to do the surgery and can see strings of meat in the intestines of his patient. Apparently, some patients think that because the surgery isn't on the intestines, he can't tell. The main purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver enough to be able to do the procedure laproscopically. Of course, all surgeons are different, but I hope it will be ok for you. It sounds like you didn't do too bad.

I'm the horrible warning that cheated on her preop diet because of other people here saying they did and got away with it (and I'm sure they were being honest and trying to help, by the way...not intentionally harming a soul!) so I figured I could too. Lost 15 pounds on my 3 week diet and BAM no band the 1st time my liver was still too large. So I followed diet PERFECTLY for 2.5 more weeks and lost 17 MORE pounds (I was floored) and then got band successfully.

SO a slice of ham and some champagne is really unlikely to derail you! But do what your doc tells you. Some people, it's not so important. Some, it is. They don't really know until they open you up, and you most likely will be one of the lucky ones that didn't really need much of a preop diet. But for the people out there like me who did need it? I can't tell you how awful it is to come to in recovery thinking "I got the band yay new life" and be told "Your liver was too BIG for the band to be placed". That is just vile.

Restless Monkey

Thanks for your post! I appreciate it and have read previous posts from you on this subject! I intend to be 100% flawless for the remaining days of my preop diet - - (counted wrong this a.m.), as there are 12 more days not 10.

I found today quite easy to follow the liquids to the 't' and am hopeful I can keep my eye on the goal until 1/12, as it would be a nightmare to be told that my liver was too fatty and they couldn't do surgery.

Thanks again, and wishing you a Happy and Skinny New Year.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
