January '09 banders

Recommended Posts

I was banded January 14. The gas pain is totally gone and the pain at my port side has pretty much gone away. I'm a little concerned, because i've only lost 8 lbs since the 14th. I lost 20 lbs on the pre op diet, but I haven't lost anything since Thursday. I'm still on a liquid diet, and having minimal calories, so I don't see why I'm still not dropping any lbs. It's a little frustrating because I was doing so well before. Anyone else notice any plateaus?

Yeah, but mine was Constipation --a problem I have battled for years and years, so no surprise. Doc warned me it's a fairly common problem.

I just was banded by Dr. Swartz too, the 21st. He is really a nice man. I believe a good doc too! I was nervous, but that soon went away. I am feelin so good. this is day 4 and all is greeat. I am at mush stuff, and liquids, Vitamins and all going down good. NO problems, no real pain, no gas problem, some burps. I am so happy with this decision. add me to your friends, love to keep up with you...Patti with a smile

I was on liquids for a week, mushies for a week, and now I'm slowly introducing solids. Some still don't stay down, but that's okay with me. I'm not hungry, so I don't care.

Hello All! I was banded on January 22nd by Dr. Richard Benavides in Richardson, Tx. Today I am 11 days post op and am feeling pretty good. I was in at 7am and in the car going home at 11:30 so it was super fast. The first 3 days were pretty painful---gas, incision pain all of it I had it. I was praying that I would feel no pain but come on now I had surgery---my husband had to keep reminding me of it. My discharge instructions were to walk every hour and to breath into a 'spirometor'? every hour for three days . It hurt really bad to breath into it but doctors orders. I wanted to lay in bed all day but I knew that I had to walk eventhough it was painful. I bought Gas-X thin strips and Phazyme and they kinda worked- but I think walking is the best medicine. I had surgery on a Thursday morning and went back to work on Monday. I felt gas pain on my left shoulder throughtout the day so that was uncomfortabl but alas I got through it. My diet was liquids for the first 10 days, my Protein Shakes 3 times a day and then applesauce, fat free pudding, baby food, then mushies for days 11-28, and then slowly incorporate solid foods. Here is my weightloss:

Pre-op diet 289

Surgery Date 272

Current weight: 256 Today I started eating mushies and I had a very mushed up pot pie and my diet choices include: mashed potatoes, creamy Soups, soups with noodles, oatmeal, cottage cheese, soft canned fruit, cream of wheat, thinned scrambled eggs, sweet potatoes/yams etc. My doctor says I need to drink at least 8 cups of Water a day and i'm suprisingly not having trouble with it at all. My first fill is scheduled for February 26th. I have a 14 cc band so i'm not quite sure how much they will fill but I'm very excited to start this journey. The best feeling is that people have already commented on my weightloss which makes me feel so great! I've never lost weight that people have noticed. I hope that they rest of the January banders have much success in 2009----its our time to shine. Best of luck to you all! :w00t:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
