I can not stop the sugar, what is the deal? I can only eat a few ounces of Protein (chicken, meat, fish) and then a few bites of some sides, then done. BUT, there is always room for dessert. Ice cream, Cookies, cake, it goes down just fine. ??? It is like the healthy stuff is hard to eat and the sugar is easy. UGH- I have lost 22 in 4 months, but it would be 32 if I could get over the sugar problem...any advice?

Hey Peaches. It sounds like a "head issue" you're dealing with...not a "band issue". Personally, I think it's easiest to break that sugar craving by going cold turkey. After I don't eat sugar for awhile, it doesn't even sound good to me.

Probably not what you want to hear, but your band is not real good at controlling stuff like this. This is where the "it's just a tool" part comes in. You have to make the hard choices about what you eat. Maybe it would be best to not even bring goodies (er....actually I guess they would be "baddies", LOL) like that into the house where you'll be tempted?

Plain gives the plain truth....

Ever notice how sweet something with sugar is when all you've had is artificial sweetners for awhile? And then how crappy artificial sweetned foods taste after you've been indulging on sugar?

Sugar is one of those things that is ok if you can control it in moderation - but if it causes you to want to binge - get rid of it.

Brad

If you cut the sugar, you won't crave it. And my personal opinion is NOT to go to sugar free stuff. sugar free stuff is artificial, and your body does not recognize food with artificial sweeteners as 'real' food. So, it never heats up right to metabolize it... Can Sugar Substitutes Make You Fat? - TIME

If you cut your sugar consumption, you will not have the cravings like before. But if you must eat sweet, it is actually better to eat a small 'something' with sugar... I used to drink tons of Diet Cokes and ate tons of Sugar free stuff pre-band. I learned about the 'evils' of sugar free, and switch post-band and have not noticed ANY stall in my weight loss...

What's wrong with a little dessert? Everything in moderation is fine :-)

All in moderation... I AGREE. Except when you are an addict. Then you need to break the addiction and relearn moderation.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I don't seek the Desserts but lately I haven't been able to resist when they are given to me (like at work). fortunately, it only takes me 2 bites to feel satisfied so I'm getting just a 'taste" but I don't want that to become a habit.

I just think of sugar as poison and have for years. That usually keeps me away from it because it really is poison. My experience with pumpkin pie filling from a piece of pumpkin pie the other night really reinforced that thought again for me!! Anyone know why I would have had such a problem with that when I have had no problem with any other foods getting stuck??

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
