Morning Sickness..or lack thereof

Recommended Posts

Heather, ick, I'm sorry! I hate vomiting. Are you sure it's not morning or pregnancy related sickness babe?

My band has been tight and picky lately. Not so tight I can't eat, but I'll take a few bites, feel the chest pain, belly tightness and have to stop or slow down. I have had lots of gas ever since banding and now that I'm preg I don't tend to take my Gas X since it's not safe to use. In pre-preg days, I found that being in a back-leaning position and taking gas meds really helped a tight band. If I took bites that weren't going down, I would lean or recline back for a few min and swallow a pill, 10 min later I could usually eat fine. This also helped to eat certain "no no" foods like Pasta and chewy breads.

Lately the pregnancy and gas bloat are back. I often have a jacket or sweater with me in the restaurant so I can casually have my pants unbuttoned and lay the jacket across my tummy so nobody can tell. I gained 8 or 9 lbs the first few weeks of pregnancy, and only now the hunger has slowed a bit and my appetite is getting to a more manageable level, so I'm ok with the band tightness. I'm hoping to get thru the next 6 or 7 months without an unfill so that I have at least SOME control and don't go weight gain crazy.

I too have heard no morning sickness means hormone levels are low so the risks are greater but I know tons of ladies who had no morning sickness and had fine pregnancies so I think it's just statistical mumbo jumbo really. my morning sickness didn't start till around 8 weeks but it lasted till I was into my 4th month and was awful. the band made it worse i think. I would honestly throw up on myself the moment I got into a car. so then I'd have to drive an hour home from or to work soaking wet. Can't tell you how many times I had to pull over, or turn around and go back home to change. finally I kept towels and extra clothes in my car. it was every day. my husband would meet me in the garage when I pulled in with a garbage bag for my soiled clothes and a fresh towel, I'd strip in there and run up our stairs naked and crying and jump in a shower. but because of the band I could hear it it was awful sounding. and I could feel it too. it was very awful so my dear if you don't have any sickness count your blessings!

This might sound gross, but if banding has taught me anything . . . it is to keep a big plastic cup with a lid in my car in the back cupholder for emergencies. Eventhough I haven't needed it for sooo long, there is piece of mind in being prepared for a sudden sliming or worse, lol.

I was doing some reading on morning sickness and I think I read that 20% of people who have normal, successful pregnancies don't have morning sickness. I think it is almost a matter of luck and heredity that allow you to skip this unpleasant side affect.

I think the lack of morning sickness thing was just really scary for me because it's one of those vital parts to "feeling pregnant" in the beginning when you have no other symptoms. Being my first time preggo, I was scared about everything and so afraid of getting attached! I remember reading that something like 30% of women are lucky enough to never get it and yet I was still convinced my baby was not gonna survive, or whatever. My mom NEVER had morning sickness and had 3 healthy pregnancies, but I just couldn't let it go. Now that I'm further along, have seen and heard my baby, I'm relaxing a bit. And in retrospect, I truly did have other symptoms. The Constipation was awful, breast tenderness took my breath away, and the fatigue was unlike anything I've ever had. I swear I'm not a wimp and I refuse to act like a delicate little wispy pregnant woman, but OMG I was EXHAUSTED beyond belief the first few weeks.

The exhaustion only briefly went away for me somewhere around 3-4 months.. but it came back and has stuck with me. I feel like I'm over-doing it every day, even though I'm not doing all that much. On weekends (when I don't work) I take a nap every day. I wake up normal 8am, by noon I am asleep again on the couch or in bed, and I'm up around 5pm, and back in bed by 8pm. On weekdays, I get home from work and go straight to bed--watch some tv & then pass out.. I was insomniac before, so this is real interesting!! I have not had to take sleeping pills since the first trimester.

I had to go to the chiropractor on Monday because my upper back was out of alignment all weekend which was making me nauseous. I had a bad pb/vomitting episode on Sunday.

Since then I keep pb'ing everything. I am constantly sick. I can get Clear liquids down but just barely. I am miserable and I think I will need an emergency unfill, probably today if I can work out the details. This really sucks.

Heather,

Good luck and keep us posted! I noticed you hadn't been on any threads the past few days and I hope you feel better fast.

I think I lost my original post to this one. I did get the unfill and everything is great now. I have not even felt sick at all since my fill was removed on Thursday evening.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
