Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

John and Bella - did they say it was normal to be throwing up so much? If it's normal at this point, how long is it supposed to last? Doesn't sound pleasant.

I am planning on being there on the 24th.

Great job Chrissy! Go for it while your motivated!

I actully have clothes to bring to this months support group meeting. My neighbor recently had the RNY and she has donated lots of clothes to pass on to the group also!

I have on a pair of 20 pants today...started at a 24! Now if I could only lose it porportionitly so my big fat ass would dissappear I would be even more happy!

Happy Friday.

Thanks! I am crazy motivated. Something clicked in my brain and I am gonna do this! I am getting the sleeve. I got Dr. Im and I am happy! I still need clothes. I am glad your are going to donate some! I have no pants that fit. I weighed in at 280.5 but already down to 274 so MY GOAL is to get down below the goal weight. I just got back from a 15 minute 1 mile walk with my BFF at work! I was amazed I actually walked a mile in 15..lol.... I just need to keep the motivation up! With me loosing weight this fast with the 1200 calorie diet I am doing good so far hope I can keep this up!

Pam – They said it’s normal but how much I’m not sure. I’m going to bring it up again when Doc Who gets back next week to make sure…

So far I’m not complaining it only happens every couple days and I’m losing about 5 pounds a week. At this rate this summer I will be where I should be weight wise.

Chrissy – Congrats!!!!!!!!!!! Sleeve sister!

John CONGRATS! 5 pounds a week!? I can't wait! I actually asked Dr. Im about that yesturday. I told him I had read that people throw up after the sleeve. He said it can take 6-9 months for your body to heal and it was normal. I mean check with your doc, and I am not sleeved yet but I spicifically asked that question.

Thanks TAM! I took a break for a while I was SOOO stressed out about some things...but I am back now and need support more then ever now. I got on the scale this morning and 274. Checked my weight at the scale at work-274. I can't believe I am loosing weight so fast on the 1200 calorie diet!! YAY! I hope I don't drop the first 10 then nothing. lol.

At orentation they said there has been ONLY ONE person to ever get to goal in 8 years in one month. I wanna be #2!!

I am very competative and love a challenge so here I go. If i loose the last 14 in 3 weeks!? It would be awesome!

Hi Chrissy – That is good to hear. That’s what my doc said too. It’s just when you’re bent over hacking up saliva and sometimes food you think should it be happening this often…

Good luck on your one month challenge! Some people only have to lose about 10 pounds so don’t kill yourself trying to beat it. Some of us could lose that in one sitting. Ok TMI.

I only have 21 pounds to loose and I consider that lucky! 10 pounds? I would die-that would be awesome. Where do I sign up for that one? lol.

I am not gonna kill myself just going to TRY hard as I can! The 1200 diet is really working for me this week, but I am sure in the next couple of weeks I will be sick of it. I might turn into a chicken I am eating so many eggs.< /p>

Can't wait to be a sleeved sista! I cant wait to see you again John. That shirt I told you was too big last meeting-time to give that away?? lol!!

Keep on truckin your doing great!

Chrissy - Yes some get such low goals. I was told it depends on where you carry the weight. My first goal was 34 pounds and I lost it in five weeks. Second was 40 pounds and I lost it in seven weeks. It was hard but worth it in the end. You’re doing great! I still have that shirt, people say it is just long but not too baggy. I might just wear it again so the clothes cops can give me a hard time.

Ash – Good job! Almost there!!!!!!

Donna - Congrats!!! Have fun in Tahoe!!!!!!

Off to go buy some plants...

I had my orientation end of May 2008, saw my surgeon two weeks later and had already lost 12 lbs.- he told me I needed to lose 20 total, at my psych appt two weeks later I had lost 23 and got my case manager appt - when I had surgery the end of Aug I had lost 30 lbs - it's funny how we can stay motivated and focused when we have to lose the weight in order to get the surgery. It does depend where you carry your weight as if most of it is in your torso it will be harder to operate unless a lot of that fat is gone. I had Dr. Im and I think each doctor has a slightly different philosophy in regards to pre-surgery weight loss and fills. I really liked Dr. Im although I would have liked more frequent follow up after surgery. I last saw him on 10-9-09 to get the fill put back in that I had taken out in 9/09 and I haven't heard from Richmond since then. Maybe they don't follow up after the first year unless you contact them to get a fill? I weighed 217 on 10/9/09 when I saw him and I weigh 220 now. It is much harder to lose weight further out - your body gets used to low calories and holds on to it. Supposedly if you lose half your excess weight after bariatric surgery they consider it a success.

I dont remember all my dates but I had orientation July 28th, and Surgery was Jan 20th. I fell off track multi times, esp. when I lost my job/insurance and wasn't sure if I could go on. I had to loose 35 lbs pre op, and once I teamed up with Nicollie I kicked butt!

Yow! Great to see so much activity and excitement over shedding pounds going on around here.

Pammie, they don't really tell us about the throwing up part very much. I know it happens because of my actions. I either try to eat one bite too many, don't chew enough times or eat too fast. I can't blame my Sleeve on my own slip ups.

For you bay area folks, I'm going to the John Muir support group meeting in Concord this morning from 10-12. I hear that it's a nice meeting so I'm going to give it a try. It happens the 2nd Saturday of every month and several of the OH Luncheon women go and say it's good. I'm checking out the local options as Wed. night at Kaiser doesn't always work out for me, plus I like to meet new people. Anyone here every check out John Muir? Everyone welcome regardless of surgery or where it was done.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
