do you still meet in Sacramento? If so when is the next meeting?

The BAND-ONLY support group in Sacramento meets next Saturday, Feb. 19th, 2011!

ALL LapBanders are welcome! Even if you are pre-surgery!!!

Sacramento Valley Bandsters Support Group

third Saturday of every month from 10:30-12:30.

Sutter Cancer Center

Classroom 1, First Floor

2800 L Street, Sacramento

Easy parking is available one short block away in covered lot on 29th Street, between K and L streets. This costs $1 per hour. There is also street parking on the blocks surrounding the area that use a meter to park. I think its approx. 25-cents per 15 min. increment of time.

This group was purposely set up so as NOT to conflict with the other support groups in the area.

Any and ALL band patients; from ANY doctor or hospital are welcome to attend.

Please join us!

Analynn, congratulations on your surgery!

Hello everyone. The Kaiser Richmond meetings have been good. They're still on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday nights. We're having a speaker these days on the 3rd Wed. Last month was Dr. Baggs and this week we had Dr. Shnurr the psychologist most of us saw pre-op. She did a presentation on body image that was quite good. I hope some of you will start coming again. They say that going to a support group ups the chance of a good recovery/maintenance so I try to never miss it.

I'm hoping to go to the Santa Rosa support group in April. Do any of you go there?

Tomorrow is the 10th anniversary meeting of the East Bay Bariatric group that meets in San Leandro. It should be a nice meeting.

Riley, how's it going with WW? I'm still attending the weekly meetings but don't use the points so much because I eat low carb so I track calories/protein/carbs, but when I log my points I'm generally between 15 and 20. Eating the fruit just doesn't work for me and I gain weight in a flash.

Take care everyone!!

Hi Reggie, it's good to see you posting here. How have you been?

Little Mo, get yourself back to that meeting! There's a woman from the Sleeve site that came on Wednesday, she lives in Antioch. Maybe you could get a carpool going. What about MamaAsh, get her coming with you. The group is really growing with lots of new people. They keep saying that people that attend support groups have a better shot at long term success. I NEED/WANT that for myself so I go. I also want to pay it forward as people were in that room for me while I was pre-op and it meant a lot to me.

I'm going to the San Leandro meeting this afternoon to Celebrate the great woman that started that support group 10 years ago. That's quite an accomplishment.

I heard from John on our 1 year surgiversary. He's doing well. Figuring out how to eat in his new body. He's under 200 pounds and feeling great.

I'm still making my way towards goal. One pound at a time but I'm definitely not giving in until I get there. I see Dr. Baggs on the 30th and will have him access my progress with me. I'm feeling better at 60 than I've felt since I was in my 20's. My life is now filled with yoga, pilates and all sorts of other fun, now that movement is fun again!

Have a fun weekend!!

Hey there everyone, just checking in too. everything is everything with me. Still struggling, a year and a half later the only thing my band is doing is keeping me from gaining any weight. I loose like a pound every few months if that. Hopefully once spring hits I'll be able to get out and walk more to give myself a jump start.

Lee you are right I'm going to try and make down to the April meeting in richmond, I think it's the 20th so I'm marking my calendar.

Also, everybody look for my doodle meeting maker I'm going to set up a get together in the coming months.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
