Ever been accused of being bulimic or anorexic with the band?

Recommended Posts

Due to the small amounts of food and weight-loss and vomiting risk...I was wondering if anyone has been accused of having an eating disorder. I don't plan on telling very many people about the band and have nosy friends and family that I could see making these assumptions. Has anyone encountered this?

Yes, people noticed that I have changed my eating habits, but I tell them that I am working towards a healthier me. And they just assume it's another diet. I have not told anyone other than my sister that I had the procedure done.:cursing:

Yes. I realy think my best friend thinks I am because lately everytime I eat I throw up. It's not that my band is to tight it's just something weird that's going on me. But other people know that I got lap band becuase I opened my big mouth!

I have some people in my life that think they are the "eating disorder police" I could just totally see them having a field day with this one.

Hmmm, nobody has ever SAID anything, maybe they've thougth it. But I really dont eat so little that anyone would notice and I've only ever had something get stuck badly in public (to the point of vomiting) once in three years and I was with my family then.

I told all my family and friends, but I dont think anyone in a work situation etc would guess. They think I'm naturally thin and just have a small appetite.

Nobody has ever said anything to me but I am sure some people suspect. I have a particularly hard time eating in front of people when I am stressed out and my co-workers and I often eat together. I often stop eating after 2 bites or have to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of a meal. I am sure that the co-workers who don't know about the band suspect bulimia. It almost makes me want to tell them... but then again it is none of their business.

I haven't gotten to that point yet. My husband is just now starting to make comments to me because he thinks my last fill was too tight (I beg to differ), but everytime my mom sees me eat something (does not matter what it is), she asks, "You can eat THAT?" uhhhhh . . . yes mom, I can eat THAT. Doesn't matter what THAT is . . . she just likes to ask that, no matter how many times I've explained to her how the band works.

Someone in her office had gastric bypass and has told her all sorts of crazy stuff, so I think she has some weird misconceptions about the band.

I've lost a considerable amount of weight thus far, too, and she always tells me that she thinks I eat a lot of food. Geesh. I can't catch a break.

Hm. I don't think so. No one has ever said anything--but I'm not sure they would even if they thought my eating was disordered. Certainly no one said a word prior to banding---I don't expect them to start now.

(My mother, if she were still alive, would comment. I am sure she would retain her role as the food Police Commissioner.)

I have a really tight band and have from the very beginning even with no fill. I have a difficult time eating most things. I had my very close friend ask me if my eating difficulties were psychosomatic and was I secretly anorexic. It really hurt my feelings and pissed me off.

I HOPE people will think that about me oneday HAHAHA

I have told all my family and most of my friends. I pretty much tell people as I have to (if I need to vomit in front of them LOL)..i've given up on caring what people think about me...it won't matter when I'm at my goal weight, because all they will see is that I'm hot! LOL :cursing:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
