I was banded on the 8th. It's been 5 days and it is just now getting better. The trapped air is finally gone. I have not been able to eat (drink) more than a few tiny sips of water or soup at a time. Not sure that this is normal. For the last five days I haven't taken in more than 200-300 calories. It makes it hard to be energetic. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am going to see a Dietician tomorrow. I have also bee very thirsty with a dry mouth probably due to dehydration. It is very hard to resist the temptation to guzzle down ice water. I think that would be bad. I haven't made up my mind yet about this being the best thing for me. I know it has only been five days but from what I have read in this forum, I have not read about any of these post-op problems. I would appresciate any advice or other experiences.

Maureen,

hang in there girl! I think I would call your doctor about not being able to sip or drink very much. I am on the clear liquids diet for 2 weeks (I'm on day 6 now) and I have no problem drinking anything. Here's what I have been doing to try and keep my energy levels up. First and foremost, ANY time my tummy starts growling, I drink the liquids that have been okayed by doc: broth, soup base (I've been straining chicken & noodle soup and drinking the broth - I've found it to be much tastier and satisfying than Swanson's chicken broth), sugar free jello, coffee/tea (I'm limiting my coffee to one cup a day because of acid), sugar free popsicles and apple or cranapple juice. I want to stress that I drink any of these whenever my stomach growwwlls!! :cursing: So far it has been keeping my energy levels up.

You definitely need to call your doctor about not being able to take more than a few sips at a time. I don't think that's normal.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing. You'll get through this!:cursing:

Nevermind about not replying...lol...I still don't have the board down yet...oops. But anway, my surgery is 1-19.

:thumbup:January 19th is my day!! Dr. Ortiz in MX.

Why hasn't anybody replied to this thread in Jan? Looks like Nov or Dec was the last update....I wanna know how you guys are doing?!

Hi Jennifer

I too am being banded on the 19th... I have started a January 19th thread and I believe a lot of peeps are posting on the January '09 bansters right now... try there for updates, etc.

hope you are doing well on pre-op diet (if you had to do one)

We are almost there

Good luck

Count me in for January 19th too, I'm SUPER excited!!!!!

Hi to all the New Year Hotties! I originally got approval in June, 2008 from my insurance company, but I was very ill from kidney failure in July, Aug. and Sept. Finally got over my illness and got clearance from my kidney doctor to have the surgery and had to get re-approved by the insurance company. That finally happened and my surgery is scheduled for January 27! I start my pre-surgery diet tomorrow and I'm very happy to finally proceed. What I'm looking forward to is never having to lose 100 pounds again. I was successful once before many years ago, but the weight came back after major back surgery when I couldn't exercise as much as before. My surgeon is Mark Smolik in Des Moines,IA.

Thanks Sandy!

I am taking your advice and am now drinking Cranberry juice (diluted with water). I was able to eat a 1/4 cup of real cream of chicken soup for dinner and breakfast this morning and I do feel better. The silver linning about all of this is I have lost 22 pound since the pre-op diet until this morning. I guess I should just be patient. I haven't even begun to use the band the way it was designed to work! Again, I appreciate you response. I live in Germany and I think some of the confusion in my follow up diet is due to a language/culture difference.

coloradobanding!

the 19th is fast approaching for us... I have started a January 19th thread... for us 19thers to keep track of each other... good luck

Hi, I just scheduled my band surgery today for January 26th. I am very excited and nervous at the same time. Hopefully the time will fly by next week. I start my pre-op diet Jan 19th, which is the same day I have my pre-op at the hospital. Looking forward to being part of the January Banders.

HELLO TO ALL THE NEWYEAR'S HOTTIES!!! Well tmrw is the BIG DAY!for all of the JANUARY 19TH , thats including me. How do you guys feel so far? I'm so excited but a little nervous. I'm not going to drink anymore limfast today because I don't want the gas after surgery, I'm just going to do jello and water to day and drink some cleansing tea. :)

Tomorrow is my band day too. I am sooo excited!! I weighed myself this morning and I have lost 7 lbs. in the last two weeks of liquids. Good luck to all that are being banded tomorrow and the rest of the week!! I look forward to hearing about your progress!!

Blackqueen, I was banded on Jan. 13th and the pre-op diet of liquids for 2 weeks ALMOST killed me :) I made it through by changing things up. I bought tons of the campbells select soup (lower sdium) and just drained the juice out... it gave me a variety, the Italian Wedding was and still is my favorite. I am still on liquids I have 2 weeks post op.. 1 week left THANK god, I never thought I would want to eat mushie food!! I go out for dinner every night (smoothie king) low carb strawberry is the only one I am allowed to get but it is nice as they make it in the blender with ice etc. kinda like a milkshake.. it come in chocolate and vanilla to. ANOTHER good option is going to safeway soup bar and just scooping out the juice.. they always have something different and a good varitey. (won ton soup is good for chinese) :wink5: I will not lie, I cheated pre-op.. I am the one if you go back freaking out about my liver (hehe) but all went great, and I have not cheated since. I go to the Dr. today so maybe he will le me eat eraly? I know not likely!
