Post Surgery Weight Gain

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else experienced weight gain right after the surgery? I was banded on 11/20 and in just a few days I've gained 6 pounds back from what I lost pre-op.

And yes, I've been sticking to the post-op diet of just liquids and calories under 1,000/day.

:)

Actually, this is not unusual at all. First off, they pumped you up with a lot of liquids during surgery. You may also be retaining Water. And, your body just went through surgery, so it is likely to be a bit out of whack right now.

Don't get discouraged. Remember, the time immediately following your surgery is for healing, not losing. Most people do not lose once they have had surgery until they reach proper restriction once they start having fills. And, many people gain as well.

I love your puppy in the avatar!

Thanks for the perspective, Susan. I need to remember your smart words about this stage.

I was so excited to lose 17 lbs. pre-op to see the scale go up is a bummer (especially when there wasn't a reason...like pizza).

That's Sascha -- my little love. :-)

You will probably see those six pounds drop off in the next couple of weeks.

Sascha is adorable. I had a yorky growing up, her name was Mitzi. I had her for 13 wonderful years and miss her to this day.

After reading posts about this topic before my surgery, I made sure not to weigh myself right after my 11/11/08 surgery. I didn't want any disappointments.

My pre-surgery weight was 251. I dropped 10 pounds on the pre-diet and weighed in at 241 on my surgery day. Today, I weigh 225 pounds on my bathroom scale. On 11/26/08, I meet with my doctor for my first follow up appointment, since the surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
