Bread, Bread, Bread, I love Bread! (Well not so much...)

Recommended Posts

I have had my band for a year and I love it; we get along great! I have learned over the year to stay away from certain food such as rice, and certain types of bread. My band has "kindly" reminded me this by a tiny bit of slimming, so I got off pretty easy. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>

It was yesterday morning and I was at my sister-in-laws house, and she made homemade bread from a bread machine. (Okay you can tell there is going to be trouble coming, because that type of bread is so doughy, and weighty that when it hits the table it hits with a "thud".) I asked if there was anything else available to eat to which she said, "No". Ever the people pleaser I had some...just a tiny amount but I had some.:cool2: I had no issues! Then I went out to lunch I ate a little bit of Protein and salad, but afterwards I started to get heartburn. What is that all about? :scared2:I decided to take a walk like any good bandster would do. I came home and I was starving and my husband had made bow-tie noodles, which I can normally eat a 1/2 cup of. I started to eat it but something didn't feel right. <o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>

I immediately started "praying to Jesus" which means I threw my arms in the air and walk around. Oh man this one was bad I could tell, even Jesus wasn't helping me. I had to bring out the big guns: pineapple juice, which made me to slime. But before I know it I can’t catch my breathe, because it feels like something is seriously stuck and I throw-up! <o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>

Fast forward twelve hours and my chest is still hurting and when I swallow liquids my band is making all these "gurgling" noises. Even though my sips of Water are not big, small amounts of water will come back into the back of my throat slightly. (Kind of like a water traffic jam.) I feel really uncomfortable until I let out a small burp.:w00t:

<o:p> </o:p>

:ear:I need some advice from the experts: Is this normal after a bad episode? With a bad episode like this how long should I be on liquids? Should I be worried? My doctor said the bands are pretty tough, but still; are they tough enough to handle “bread machine” bread? I am never eating any kind bread or Pasta again!<o:p></o:p>

OUCH! I've encountered similar things and there are certain types of breads I won't even attempt to eat. In a few years I may be braver.

Today at lunch I ordered a hotdog. I took one bite then just ate the toppings...no meat or bread.< /p>

After I had that happen, I just took it easy. Sometimes you'll bounce back faster than others.

Others will post to this but good luck and you're doing great!

All I can say is that I had a VERY similar incident yesterday.....we were at the grocery store and they just opened a section in the bakery with artisan bread....YUMMO. The baker was adorable and just kept cutting little pieces of bread off of the different loaves for us to try. I kept thinking that it was going down ok, so Just kept taking bites.......

THEN....went home and had dinner....EVERYTHING immediately stuck. It was my worst episode EVER....I shall spare you the details, but suffice to say I looked like a rabid dog......

Lesson learned.....bread doesn't work......and yes, I have heard that a million times before, but guess I had to figure it out on my own!

Well, my band can handle bread machine bread, lol. Bread is a normal part of my diet.

I also tend to recover immediately after a pb. I dont get sore, it doesnt last into the next day, etc. But from what peple report here, that's entirely normal.

Hope you feel better soon.

If the acid has sat there for awhile, I am usually sore day or so, feels like getting a sore throat. As far as I know, after a bad inflammation try to be gentle for 24 hours. (Icecream soothes it!!!)

Thankfully, I haven't had that type of episode, but my doc says at least 24 hours on liquids after an episode like that. Then to try to work your way up from liquids to soft foods and so on as you get comfortable. I hope you feel better soon.

Does anyone else find that after they have had an "episode" of getting stuck, they feel a little "shaken up"? I do and it lasts for about half an hour.

48 hours of liquids after a bad episode. That is the law. just kidding, but at my doctors office they mean business when we have bad ones like that. Honestly once I gave into ruling, things have worked out so much better for me. Sorry for your icky time :wink2:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
