Bandsters Nov 17-21

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

Like most of you, I'm a little nervous about surgery on the 20th! I started my pre-op diet yesterday....didn't have to start until the 12th, but since I've gained a few pounds since my initial visit in August, I wanted to get a head start...it hasn't been as bad as I expected but its only day two...I'm sure I'm going to be SICK of Soup, Protein shakes and pudding by Tuesday...LOL! How are you guys doing? Anyone having a hard time with the pre-op diet?

Hi Cappy! I'm just so glad to finally have a date after my insurance hassles that I'm actually enjoying the preop diet...sick, huh? It's feeling good to be losing weight and feeling full after a small amount of food or a Protein Shake. I think it's going to be good preparation for the real thing. My surgery is on the 19th....coming up FAST now! I'm so ready....:rolleyes2:

hi all! i start my pre-op diet tomorrow.... surgery on the 20th! yay!

this entire weekend was a bit of a "last supper" ... i didn't gain any weight though, thankfully! friday my roomie and i cooked mexican food, we had a tailgate with hamburgers on saturday, and tons of leftovers for today. but i am so ready to start this pre-op diet. i want to prove to my doctor and to myself that i AM capable of a little self-control.... it's only ten days, right?

hopefully i don't give in to temptation. my mom, who won't be in the same city as me until next tuesday, is putting herself on a similar diet for moral support. i'm so lucky she's willing to suffer with me!

Hey everyone! I am being banded on Nov. 19 in SC by Dr, Givens. I have been on my pre-op diet for a week now. I have 2 protien drinks one protien bar and a "sensible" meal for dinner. So far so good! A little about myself... I am married (14 years) with two children (boy12 and girl7). I am really excited about being banded and I can't wait to see how we all do! Good Luck everyone!!!:rolleyes2:

Good morning Bandster Family,

I had a temporary setback last week - my PCP told me that my Iron levels are low - I'm anemic - and that it might postpone my surgery!:cool2::eek::w00t:

As I'm sure all of you can imagine, I'm NOT happy  I worked hard to get to this point, and I'm not giving up! I have a good friend who suffers with serious anemia, and she's on a special supplement. I went out and got myself some - it's a high-potency liquid Iron supplement, and is reported to raise your levels within 4 days.

I am still scheduled for my pre-op tomorrow, so I'll report in and let y'all know what's what. I am praying that my surgery will go ahead as scheduled...I arranged for the time off work at one of the busiest times of our year, and my DH and DD have been so supportive...I just hate to wait any longer.:crying:

For those who know the power of prayer, please keep me in yours...I need all the good thoughts, good energy and positives coming my way that I can get!

Hi Heather,

Thanks so much for the good wishes!:cool2:

The Iron supplement is a liquid, and is called SSS Tonic. It also includes the following:

Supplement Facts: Active Ingredients: Each High potency Dose (3 Tablespoons) Contains: B1 Thiamine 5.0 mg, B2 Riboflavin 2.4 mg, Niacinamide 20.0 mg, and Iron 100.0 mg as Ferric Ammonium Citrate.

Other Ingredients: Purified Water, Ethyl Alcohol 12%, Sorbitol, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Natural and Artificial flavors, Gentian Root Extract, Sodium Benzoate and Saccharin Sodium.

I have been taking it since the middle of last week, and though I haven't had my iron checked since then, the product does say you'll feel better in 3 - 5 days. I got mine at Walgreens - they had one of the best prices, and there's one near me, so no shipping cost.

It doesn't taste too bad - kind of like Vitamins I used to take when I was a kid...my anemia may have been complicated by the fact that I also suffer with fibroids. My menstrual cycle can be a real bear to handle...

Hope it helps - I'll let y'all know on Wednesday if I'm still going to have surgery in November...

I am on day one of my pre-op liquid diet and surprisingly I am only just now starting to feel a little hungry. Which is normal--I always get hungry about this time of day. I'm hoping that I continue to feel as full as I have today!

EbonyRose: I will pray for you and keep you in my thoughts. Good luck!

Hungry today, not nearly as perky. The scale is up 1.5 lbs, hopefully that is because I started my cycle.

I find myself today very anxious and worried whether any of this is going to work. Still seems like a long way off.

Hi all!

I had talked with several of you who said you were interested in keeping in touch since we were being banded the same week... so I set up a thread for the week of Nov. 17-21. I am being banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver on Nov. 19th. I had a phone consult with him yesterday and everything is a go!

Im starting to get all nervous/excited...

Do any of you have to go on pre-op diets? If so what does yours consist of?

My surgery is Nov 21st and I started all liquid today! Slim fast bummer!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
