Ok I'm scheduled for surgery on the 18th and I'm supposed to start my pre-op diet tomorrow but I'm still waiting for my insurance approval. The Insurance guru and my office states she doesn’t see it being a problem and if it was they would have said something already. WELLL the dilemma is do I start the diet ... do I call the insurance co.... I hate to be a pest and I've talk to the insurance guru 2 x last week and she keeps telling me not to worry. I can't sleep ...I'm getting short tempered and the anxiety is driving me nuts. WHAT DO I DO!!!

You proceed forward like it is going to happen and put that expectation out into the universe. STart the pre-op diet...it can only help you even if you don't have the surgery.

Also have you called the insurance company yourself? Many to most people have had to follow up on this on their own to get answers. Don't let them do the surgery if you don't have approval. You will be liable for the cost, as it is standard to have you sign a form that states you understand that anything your insurance does not cover, you pay for.

Hi Guys, I was banded on Nov.5 and went through all the same emotions. I am now 1 week out . I feel great. I can't even believe that I have a band in me. It is much easier than I expected to stay away from the foods I craved before. But it still does take alot of will power. The band is not magic. I just know that I may be able to fit something in my mouth but that doesn't mean it's going to get through that small band. I know I don't want to mess my band up so I don't do it. I keep a record of what I eat and I usually plan ahead my meals and that makes it easier also. I have to cook for my husband and 2 boys so I eat my small portion at the table with them and then I leave and go in the other room because it is hard to see them with all that food when I am still wanting more food. I understand that this will deminish when I have my fill but for now I avoid food when im having a craving. Drink plenty of Water also.I did not have gas pains like alot of others have right after surgery, however I started taking GasX as soon as I got home per my doctors request. I think taking the meds ahead of the symptoms was smart . I also took my pain meds for 2 days every 4 hours and didn't wait for the pain to come on. All in all I had minimal pain. Just soreness whenever I would try to get up out of the bed. For the first 3 nights it helped me to sleep up on 2 pillows. One week out and I am feeling great. I can start smoothies, Beans ,eggs, well cooked veggies and some other foods today. I hope it continues to go this well. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I got the go-ahead for my surgery! :D:lol::mellow::thumbup:

I'm so happy I can't see straight...I'm very very excited! My surgeon didn't seem to think the anemia was a problem - he was more concerned about prior abdominal surgeries than anything else!

I'm completing the pre-op diet I put myself on this weekend, and was told not to take my diabetes meds on the day of surgery. I'm SO EXCITED to finally join my sisters and brothers in bandland!

Monday will be the first day of the rest of my healthier life...many thanks for all those who sent me good wishes and who have kept me in prayer...

I'll definately be checking in between now and then...and my self-imposed pre-op diet made my surgeon very happy - he said I was doing the right thing by being proactive about it, even though he didn't require it.

Can't wait for Monday!:cool2::w00t::tt2::w00t:

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for starting this thread, Allyson....great idea! Now we can all keep track of our surgeries and support each other! And since I'm not planning on telling anyone about my surgery but my hubby and Aunt, I need all the support here I can get!

Hi Janesays: My surgery is the same day as yours....I have to go on a "liquid" diet for two weeks prior to surgery....but it doesn't just consist of drinking Protein liquids, I can have Jello, Soup, carnation instant Breakfast (no sugar added)....there's more but I don't have my list in front of me so I can't remember....but I do remember that the day before surgery its strictly liquid (Medifast). Like you, I have also been practicing...chewing slower, trying to eat smaller portions....but I'm having a really hard time with not drinking while eating....I don't know about you guys, but this one is SO tough for me. Great to meet you and look forward to keeping in touch!

I have been eating really bad these last few weeks....I swear, I am totally addicted to SWEETS! I can go all day without wanting anything but the minute I get off the train to go home, BOOM....it hits me like a ton of bricks that I NEED something sweet...it doesn't help that I HAVE to walk past a Dunkin Donuts and the stationary store that carries all kinds of artery clogging junk like ring dings and yodels...I'M SO WEAK! And after I walk in to one of these stores and pick out a couple of things to eat on the car ride home, I don't give a rats a-- that I have NO BUSINESS eating this stuff...then once I'm done eating I'm like, what the h--- did I just do that for? This has been my life the last month...I think its a combination of being plain ole' addicted to sweets and thinking that in just a few short weeks I won't be eating this stuff anymore thanks to the band, so what the hell!

Anyhoo, that's my rant! I look forward to keeping in touch with everyone and helping each other get through this. I'm excited and scared all at the same time! Coming here and talking with all of you on this board has truly helped me these last few months! THANKS!

Night all!

Hi there I am having my lapband surgery with DR GEiSS also on Mon Nov 17th 2008...I am very excited!! On the full liquids . Would happen to remember if we can have Tomato Soups??

Hey Bobbi! Another Dr. Geiss patient, he's very popular on this board! Yes, you absolutely can have tomatoe soup! I went to Trader Joe's and bought their low-sodium brand....it is DELISH! I believe with the soups, as long as its 3 grams of fat or less you can have it.

You should come and join us on the New York/Long Island board....we are mainly Dr. Geiss patients! We would love another poster! Good luck on your surgery....please let keep in touch and let me know how your doing!

Congrats, Ronda - let us know how you're doing when you're able...

Countdown to banding - now just 2 days! (I don't count today)

I'm really excited and going to do my final shopping this weekend so I'll have everything I need...:tongue2:

To everyone on a pre-op diet - hang in there!

To all who sent me good wishes and prayers, thank you!

I don't usually check in on the weekends, so the next time you hear from me, I'll be banded!:tt2::w00t::blink::blush::w00t:

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
