Had surgery on Friday afternoon. The incisions are no longer sore. It's the gas. I am having really BAD back pains and sharp gas pains. I have been walking and taking the gas X strips to help alleviate the pains. I am miserable. I know it will be worth it soon, but these sharp shooting pains are knocking me to my knees. Any tips, or words of encouragement?

I have no tips to fix this, but I'll try some encouragement.

I had surgery exactly one week before you, try looking at my posts from last weekend. I was MISERABLE. it's so bittersweet since I was so excited to get the surgery. But until Wednesday. I literally stayed in bed rolling around back and forth groaning. That sounds so dramatic, but I want you to know you aren't alone!

My incisions were fine, my abs hurt a little (as expected) but it really was the gas. I would feel it roll back and forth through my abdominal cavity and I couldn't 'expell' it!

I am sorry! Lots of people get out of the surgery easy, and don't have those kind of debilitating gas pains like this. All anyone could tell me was it will get better. It did, thankfully, but at the time it didn't help to hear that at the time. Mine pain sucked so bad I was nauseous from it.

I wish I had walked a little bit more, also...I live in a small apartment so instead of walking outside all the time I did little tiny chores (I didn't bend over). and that was the "walking" the helped.

You will feel better! The one thing I wish I had known was that some people have had gas pain that is this bad! I thought something was wrong it was so bad. I thought, there's no way that this is normal, that people do this and let others do it. But like my mother said, "sounds like childbirth...once you get the reward, you kinda forget about the crappy part."

Walk, walk and walk some more! Around the house, outside around the house, up and down the hall. Short stints on the treadmill. I was on the treadmill on day 3. very slow, holding on, 3x a day. nothing streneous. just moving.Gas migrates upward, so it will go to your shoulders. It can be painful. Just remember it is gas, not sure if teh gas-x tablets help. A frien that recently had her lap- band placed took the gas-x, not sure how she is doing gas wise now 5 weeks after. I remember my shoulder blades just aching to no end, especially when I went to bed at night. They hurt to just lay on them. So it felt better when I was up moving around. Eventually they will go away, thankfully. They will diminsh some every day. Hang in there and keep moving. I am 9 monts post op, 62 lbs down. Started at size 16/18, now in a 6/8. It is wonderfula and it is well workth it to follows drs rules. Good luck.

I just had my surgery on 13 Oct and I am just now feeling relief from the gas. I was miserable as well. I walked alot but it really didn't seem to help me and I had a gas-x strip on my tongue quite often. I am now 7 days out and finally feeling better. It got to the point that when I would pass some of the gas, I would feel better but then I had to keep driniking Water or broth and it seemed like my stomach filled back up with gas. I guess it just takes time no matter what. Sorry that you are so miserable. I am hoping (for all of us) that it will be soooo worth it in the end! Stay strong.

Try to move around as much as you can. That was the only thing I found that helped and I didn't want to move at all! It does get better and better as the days pass, hang in there!

How are you doing, hersheymalone? I can tell you that the gas pain WILL go away! My gas pains finally completely subsided by Friday, so that is 11 days. I know everyone is different so hopefully yours are already gone, too.

I had my band done in 8/08. When I came out of surgery my back hurt soo much and I almost threw up from being dizzy. They gave me something for the sick feeling. I din't have any sholder pain but all back pain. It felt like back labor. I used gas x stripsand walked a lot. I also gave up the shakes and drinks because it was making me more gassy. I lived on egg drop Soup and frozen yogart and iced tea.The Dr. also sent me home with heavy pain pills that I used for the week. It did help with the pain in my back from gas. I am down 25 pds . I havent fixed my scale yet-Elisa

I actually had so much gas pain tht I went and got a chair massage and it made a world of difference. They concentrated on my shoulders, where all the gas had risen to, and back and neck, and I felt alot better.

i hear ya! I'm a little more than a week out and if this makes u feel any better it got way less! My dr told me to use a heating pad on low up near my shoulders and like everyone else says walk walk walk! I tried the gas x route but they'd explained to me that it only works for the gas in your intestines...not in your abdominal cavity...but I still took it in hope it would magically do something...it gets better I swear!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
