Hypothyroidism and the the band

Recommended Posts

I have hypothyroid, and while it can't take much of the blame for me getting to this weight, it apparently can take part of the blame for not being able to lose weight. Any bandsters out there that have hypothyroidism...and how have you done with the band? I am on a small dose of armor thyroid hormone, (t3 and t4) and think it will probally be increased a bit at my next appointment for this in a couple of months. I'm hoping between the band and my exercise routine the weight will finally start dropping!

I do. I did really well with the band when I ate small portions, but I've had some complications and let my eating slide. I want to get back on track, so I'm seeinig my band surgeon this weekend.

I've had real trouble loosing since they diagnosied me ...and a bit before that when I was just having endless symptoms of crazy things. (thats what it felt like anyway) Course I'm not sure how high my effort has been either. One of the things with hypothyroid for me is...i'm too tired to care LOL. Its getting better though....and now I have the camping pictures of me for motivation ....oh horrible horrible pictures LOL. (big old baggie clothes, no makeup, hot and sweety, hair pulled back...need I go on)

Going to renew my efforts to loose some weight before banding this next week.

I have hypothyroidism also, and have done very well with the band, so far - was banded May 3, 2005 and am down 22 pounds. My only problem is that my levoxyl seems to make me nauseated so I have to take it after lunch. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 10 years ago and this is the first time I've been able to lose weight. I suspect we are all very different in this regard.

I take .125 of Synthroid every morning and have no problems. My PCP seemed to think the dosage might have to be adjusted after a lot of weight came off, but that hasn't proved to be the case. As far as I can tell, my hypoactive thyroid has not been any factor at all with my banding.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
