The Big 5-0 Today!!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am so excited that I have lost 50 pounds, I can hardly stand it. Except for the part where I am starting to get shy about telling people how much I've lost (as the number climbs and climbs), I couldn't be happier.

I just have to say that I NEVER in a million years would have been able to do this without my band!!!

I started off at 263 in May. With pre-approval diets and pre-op liquids, got to 247 for the day of surgery (June 4, 2008). Just 3 months later, I am down to 213. With the exception of the pre-op and post-op liquid phases of the program, I have never once felt deprived with my lapband. Which is funny considering that I'm the person who was irritable and cranky and felt deprived the night BEFORE I was about to start a program like Weight Watchers or something because I KNEW the feelings of hunger and my so-called "starvation" that were awaiting me. I remember the headaches, the grumpiness. NOT THIS TIME!

I currently have 6 ccs in a 10cc band and I have very good restriction. I am pretty tight most of the day, but get a little bit hungrier at night. I do occasionally eat things that aren't protein-filled or nutritious, but just tiny bites of them. I am trying to work the band like a "normal" person would eat . . . to get away from my strict Atkins mentality that always doomed me to failure at about Day 19. haha.

And I workout like my salvation depends on it. haha! But I'm loving it. It feels great and I'm finally starting to look decent in workout clothes. Aside from marrying the love of my life and having children, this is the best darn thing I've ever done for myself.

Thank you for all of your love and support . . . I still have a ways to go, but this is so exciting and fun to see a new me!!!!!

Wow, good for you. It is nice to hear that you are doing so well on the band. I was banded 7 days ago and am still on the liquids. I can not imagine what restriction is yet do to all the liquids. I can not wait to try it out with solid foods, and I am praying it will work. Keep going! Good luck to you.....

You have a right to be proud! Good for you.

When people ask how much have you lost---say, "I've lost a 3rd grader."

I have now lost a 4th grader and am aiming for a 6th grader.

Hey that's a great way to think about it, JB!! Wow!! I really never thought about it like that. My son is a first grader and when I pick him up, I think wow, If I put on this much weight I would hardly be able to walk. But, I never thought about it like that.

Hi SanDiegoPhotog, Good for you!! I was banded June 23rd but have only lost 3 lbs. I'm am not discouraged. Posts like yours keep me excited and motivated. I have 5 cc in a 10cc band. How many fills have you had to get the 6cc.? Does your doctor give them once a week, once a month, or anytime you need them. I agree, I have never really felt deprived and I am an Atkins dieter as well. Keep posting, it is so encourgaing to all of us.

Congratulations on your amazing success. I was banded last Friday (4 days ago) and have lost 6 pounds. I was up 5 pounds due to the swelling and gas after surgery, but it came off after 1 day. I hope to have your success.

STAY STRONG,

Amanda

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
