Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Recommended Posts

First post here. My surgery is scheduled for Oct 8th. Just now getting excited, after a year of pushing my insurance company! I'm so busy right now, trying to get all of my ducks in a row before I am out of commission for a while. I am very interested in finding out how long folks are taking off work. Think I'll check to see if there is another thread dedicated to that topic or I'll start one!

My surgery is the day after yours. I'm taking off the afternoon of the 8th through the following Friday (the 17th). I may have to go in for a couple of meetings, but I'm going to try very hard not to. I figure I deserve the time for myself to heal properly. They can live without me.

I'm glad you all are doing so well!!

Meshultz, I was actually a member of Curves for 3 years and went 4 times I think.... I finally cancelled my membership last fall. I sure wasted a bunch of money... but was always thinking "I might want to go back"...

I went into GNC today and saw those test tube things... they're HUGE... I asked the guy working there, he said they're "ok"... He recommended the Amplify Protein Powder. The Protein Shake mix my surgeon recommends is $12 for 7 packets. The Amplify was a better buy, I believe. He said the GNC brand was cheaper and had more flavors, but that the Amplify was tastier.

Keep up the good work, everybody! I did go walking tonight for 50 minutes (3 miles) woohoo!

Well I was away for three days due to my holidays and I see I missed soo much. I am glad to hear that everyone is doing well.

I got my chest x-ray results back mon and they said it was fine boy did I give a sigh of relief that it will be on time. I just hope that they don;t open me up and then close me b/c my liver is too fatty. I haven't lost too much weight just about 2-3 pd and i have been very strict about my diet. I got a little fusturated and tonight had a small bite and I mean a real small bite of brownies that I made for my guests for the holiday. I am going to tell dh to finish it I can't have it in the house its too much of a temptation for me.

I can't believe that I have 4 more days till my surgery!! I am driving my dh crazy with my counting. But I am nervous and very excited that I am getting this done its somehting I have been waiting for for a long time. anyways enough rambling for now I am going to find out what time I have to be there tomm so I will be in touch.

Good luck for those being banded tomm.

 Me, me, me!!! I'm scheduled for October 7th!!

Only problem is that my DH is exhibiting major acting out behavior - he doesn't want me to have the surgery. Says he won't take me to the hospital or be there after wards. Reason: I just need to control my fork and show some self control. Also is afraid of me getting the MRSA infection.

Anyway, I've fought for this surgery and I need it for health reasons (diabetes, GERD, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea) and I'm going for it, regardless.

Wish me luck!!!

just some info that i got at the doctor today and wanted to know if anyone had been told this..........

my doctor's office told us to mark where our bra hit and were our pants hit on the waist and mark with a sharpie so that the doctor would have a "road map" so as not to place the incision too close to either of them.....

did anyone else get this info from their doctor? if not you might ask... seems like where they cut is pretty important and it would not be a good thing to have pain due to clothing rubbing against it....

Hey there!

I'm schedeuled for my band on Monday 10/13/2008.

I'm self pay because my bmi is not 40 or over.

I'm living in the bay area and would love to chat with anyone about our journey!

I know they say that you should have a goal for weight loss, but I have been so unsuccessful in the past that I'm a little wary of putting it out there.

My main goal is to get back to where I was before I began gaining back in 1996 ( I was around 25 at the time and weighed 125 pounds being 5'4).

I'm now around 207 and 37 years old. So I'd love to get down to a size 8 and be in the 125 - 130 pound range....and I'm crossing my fingers that I will not have a lot of saggy skin and need plastic surgery. I have loaded up on various compression garments and post-pregnancy belly bands so everything stays in place, lol.

OMG and I did buy a packet of those 2.9 oz Protein Shots and they DO look ridiculous. Seriously, I put some in my refrigerator and my husband thought I brought home some type of new sex toy. It seriosuly looks like a dildo.....sorry for offending anyone....I work as a sex educator and I guess it's better you guys know my real personality because it's going to come out sooner or later

Best to all

Congrats to all of you out there with up coming dates! My surgery is on 10/27 and I tell you what...My DH started "acting" out and telling me that I just needed to "exercise my elbows more" by pushing back from the table. So, I took his advise and started eating smaller portions. Guess what? I gained 5 lbs! SO ~ I started going to see the PCP about the surgery. I'm like most of you guys, I started out over a year ago and I have finally made it!

Lots of love and prayers for you guys that are having your surgery today and on Monday. Take care of yourself!

April

If all goes well, I'm having my surgery on the 7th of October (Tuesday). I plan on going back to work the following Tuesday (after the long holiday weekend). So I'm missing four days of work.

I've heard that some people have the surgery on a Friday and go back on Monday, but others say 2 weeks was necessary!

I am having mine on a Monday and going back the following Monday. I am just taking my 1 week vacation time to recover. I was told to give yourself at least a week to bounce back.

I had surgery on the 1st and plan return to work on the 6th. My husband had his surgery on sept 24th and was able to return to work on sept 29th.. No matter how much time you take off just make sure you are taking care of yourself.. walking and drinking Protein or Water are three of the best things you can do during recovery.. Good luck everyone.

I am getting very nervous now since my surgery is scheduled for October 8. It is quite a drive from here so we are leaving the day before and staying in the hospital's hotel. My biggest concern is that the BC/BS insurance will find a way to back out. I have waited over 10 years for them to approve me. They insisted I needed to be near death. Well I got to that point this past spring because of severe non-alcholic fatty liver. One of the requirements is that I have a BMI over 50. Mine was over 55 when I started out trying to jump through all the insurance hoops in May. So the doctor puts me on this Liquid Protein diet around 4 weeks ago and I have lost down to just 50.2 BMI when I weighed myself today. I am very scared that I will loose some more weight before surgery being on this Protein diet and not qualify for the insurance to pay.

toosy... i am not 100% sure, but I think once you have approval from your insurance they wont go back on their approval just because of the weight loss. it is to be expected on an all Protein diet that one would loose some weight and with how long your doctor put you on one i would think they would expect u to loose quite a bit.. I started myself on a Protein Drink diet on Aug 22nd and used the shakes for Breakfast and lunch and then had pretty much whatever i wanted for dinner until about 2 weeks before surgery were my dinner went to no carb.. I only lost 19lbs, but I am glad I lost that much.. I think you will be fine.. just keep focusing on your health and my best wishes go out to you

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
