Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Recommended Posts

I know that I am so nervous! I tossed and turned all night last night - thinking, should I be spending this sort of money right now? Are we going to struggle while I pay for this? Should I wait until next year? No, I don't know, but NO! I've been researching this for years and for 3 yrs continuously - I've been serious. It's my time and I'm just nervous.

Since I scheduled the date... I can barely think of anything else! I too have read every inch of the info Dr. K's office has sent. I am getting ready to order one of the lapband books.

I believe we have all made the very best choice - having done many, many other diets. I'm the queen of diets at my office. Can't wait to get banded!

It's called "Before and After" by, Susan Maria Leach...I ordered from Amazon, but it's everywhere, like Barnes and Noble, Books A Million, a paperback so not expensive. She chronicles her RNY journey from pre to success and it is very appropriate for lap banders also. GET IT!!!!!!! You will love it...I going to re-read parts tonight for inspiration & guts!

Thanks much for that book info & for the web address as well - I'll look into it for sure.

The book my surgeon has suggested is 'Lapband Solutions' another poster on this site suggested 'Adjustable Gastric Band: Everything You Need to Know' by Robert W. Sewell. Both can be ordered at Amazon.com

Ok. I just ordered two of the books mentioned. I hope I get them soon. I start my pre-op diet on Thursday. I am so nervous about everything. Since my surgery isn't until Oct. 2, I haven't been called to schedule my pre-op testing. I have never had an upper GI, what exactly is that like? Have any of you had it yet?

I am hoping my lap band surgery will be in October. I only have my cardiac testing and pre surgery appt left after this Wednesday. The insurance cordinator is thinking it will be in October. I am so confused with all of the negative stuff on here. It is like I am taking a gamble that it will work for me.

The Upper GI really wasn't bad at all. They had me drink some stuff (kind of like Alka Seltzer that didn't taste great but there wasn't much of it) then I had to stand in front of a table while they told me to turn certain ways. Then the table tilts back with you on it  (that was a little freaky) until you are lying down. Then they give you some barium to drink through a straw (mine was strawberry flavored, not horrible not great) they tell you to swallow slowly etc and you can see it going down on the tv screen. I actually thought this was the coolest of all the tests that I had done because you could actually tell what you were seeing. I can't wait to do it after I have my surgery so I can see the band!

Yep, I agree the upper GI took about 10 mins. and does NOT hurt....stuff does not even taste bad......so cool, they could see my acid reflux happening...they said that did not happen a lot! I would be the weird one! Do NOT sweat it!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
