Surgery August 6th and still in pain....is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I had my surgery on the 6th and I am feeling better than day 1 but I’m still in pain. I rolled onto my stomach last night when I was sleeping (on accident) and woke up to this horrible burning painful sensation in my stomach. Now I am in more pain than I was in yesterday. Has anyone else been in pain for over 2 weeks post op? One more question.....I have to make myself eat because I’m not hungry at all. Is there anyone else out there who has to make themselves eat?

I had my surgery on the 5th and I am really feeling good. I even ventured onto my stomach on Tuesday just to see how it felt. Wasn't to bad, couldn't have laid there for a long time, but not bad.

You might want to call your docs office if it is that bad. That doesn't sound normal, but I am not an expert.

I have been able to eat (mushies) and I have been hungry. I have to say that I was not really hungry at all the first week, but my appetite has picked back up.

Some people have said they had a fill when they were banded, the band was not left empty. Maybe that is why you are not able to eat anything.

Make sure you are getting your Protein and Water and call the doctors office. I hope you feel better!

I had my surgery on the 7th.. I'm feeling great, I had the same problem with not feeling like eating. I went and saw my surgeon and she released some Fluid around the band. She said that the band comes with some saline when they put it in. So I agree with Krtork, just call your Doctor.

Feel Better!:smile2:

I think you should call your doctor. It may be normal, however, I have regained my appetite somewhat and have no pain at all anymore. I only had to force myself to "eat" (drinking my liquids), for the first week or so.

I still have some tenderness at the port insion. The nurse told me it was normal. I have been moved to regular food this week. I know once i started mushies my hunger came back. So far it seems like the solid food is keeping my hunger in check for the most part. I havent lost any weight since i started mushies.

Because it go so late I had to have my doctor paged to call me (I feel really bad about doing that). He said I probably pulled something and that I would be fine. I love how they can diagnose you over the phone without looking at you ... lol. I will be calling the doctors office tomorrow to make an appointment since the pain is getting worse. I wish I could be like all of the pain free people I keep on reading about. Maybe I will be pain free soon :cursing:

I had surgery 7/23 and I still have pain in my port site, I saw the doctor today and he told me a have a hematoma but its okay. He said he had to go really deep to the fascia but its just sore and painful to the touch but he said it is healing fine. I was unable to eat for the first two weeks but after that my appetite came back.

Everyone is different. My friend was banded 2 weeks before me and she was fine. It was two weeks before I could even sleep on my side. I STILL haven't attempted sleeping on my stomach. My port incision is still tender and has a small bump (scar tissue developing). This being said, I still am happy about my surgery and would do it again tomorrow if needed.

But, definitely check with the dr again if the pain concerns you. I called mine when one of my incisions drained. It is no big deal to them, of course, but they know we don't go through this everyday. I am sure your dr will understand.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
