  1. 1. How happy are you with your band

    • So freaking happy!!!! I love my lap band
    • It's working out as thought it would
    • I'm losing, but not as fast as I hoped
    • I'm frustrated with it, honestly
    • I wish I had never got it done.

Great poll Ready! I hope everyone answers it because then we can get a good idea of Lap Band reality instead of just the few people who talk. I know there are numerous people in each area but not really sure what the breakdown looks like. Thanks

I'm conflicted...I love my band (option 1), BUT I'm not losing as quickly as I would like (3).:cool2: I went with 3, but can I be a 3 and a 1...wait, that would be a (4), nope. Not a four.

Arithmetic is difficult!:)

Is there an option of: I'm scared to say because I don't want to jinx myself because I love it, but I'm supersticious as well? lol. So, I put that I love it, BUT, I'm putting here that anything could happen later on as nothing is guaranteed.

I think everyone would be happier with their band if they didn't place so many expectations on it. I think some expected it to be magical or be like the bypass, and it's not. You do have to work at it... Getting to a perfect fill level... eat better.. etc..

Also, people need to quit looking at others numbers. You are you. Everybody loses at different levels AND if you are averaging 4 lbs a month, that's awesome. One pound a week. Don't let others discourage you.

I know my lapband will work better if I work with it better...I have been doing some soul searching and I think that I have been self defeating. Maybe I'm scared of success because with success comes such a drastic change? I think that is why I started smoking again. I really can't work out when I'm smoking. I quit three days ago, again. I am going to walk today and going to the gym tomorrow. I'm determined to not sabotage myself anymore.

You have a lot on your plate there Ready. Quitting the smoking habit by itself is tough enough already. I smoked for 25 years and finally totally stopped 3 years ago. I still occasionally have a craving but it's so much easier to ignore after the first couple weeks and most of it is gone in a few months. You go girl!

Any weight loss for me would have been a success for me. I was a bad bad bad dieter. I couldn't stick with anything for any decent length of time. I am seriously shocked that it has actually worked out for me.

Crystal, I needed to read your post. I have to admit that I am a bit frustrated that I'm not losing faster and it seems everyone else who got banded in July is losing WAY more than me. I guess I hoped the band would be magic. It is helping me with Portion Control so I know when I start to exercise more I'll be able to lose more.

Exactly, not to mention, you were barely over 200 pounds.. I believe that's what your ticker shows, so its probably normal for yours to be a tinge slower, simply because you don't have as much to lose as somebody 300 lbs.. but honestly, you just got banded.. and you are still healing and you probably haven't even reached your proper fill level... it can take up to 3-4 months for this to happen.. I bet you will do really well with your band and you will be to goal fairly quickly... Good luck!

Thanks Crystal. It really helps to get words of encouragement. It makes me want to try even harder.

Good post CC.

I can rationalize this, I can understand it...I guess it is the difference between what I know, and what I feel. I want to see the dramatic loses that others have experienced. Most days I am philosphic about it, but on those others days, watch out!!!

I am happy I found this, I haven't had mine yet, although I have a date 9/9. I am having problems with my husband being supportive and this is damping my excitement, but this is helping. Thank you

Glad you're feeling better. It's a tough choice to make and hard to get it done but now I want to wring my own neck for dragging my feet. I hope your hubby snaps out of it. It's so much easier when you have good support at home. Good luck with your surgery. It'll be here before you know it.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
