URG! it's stuck...ideas anyone?!

Recommended Posts

Okay...now 9 days post op and I have something stuck. You know those two bones that stick out at the base of your throat ( i know that sounds weird) anyway if I stick my finger right in between there that's where I feel something everytime I swallow. I can still eat and drink, but it's been there for 2 days now. Ever since then when I lay down my back starts killing me. Anyone else experience this....anyone??! I tried to research ways to help food and many sites said to take a big gulp of a carbonated soda. You don't have to tell me twice to sip a diet coke (since that's a no no now) but it didn't work....urg...this is driving me crazy:cursing:

I just got banded on 8-15 and live in north plano, near frisco. I can not help you with the stuck issue b/c I am on thick fluids right now. Who did your surgery? I am also looking for some local buddies since I am only telling family about my surgery. Ya interested?

Just a few suggestions, I don't have much lap band experience yet.

The back pain sounds like it may be gas. Try some mylicon. When you lie down do so on your side with a pillow between your knees. I don't know about you but it is uncomfortable to lay on the side where my port is so I always lay on my right side. Also walk, walk, walk. As far as the stuck part. I have overindulged at some points and it feels like I am just full to the top (like it is even hard to swallow). For me walking also helps. Even if you just stand up and walk in place for a while.

Like I said I don't have much experience with it yet but this has worked for me.

I'm curious...what could be stuck? I'm guessing you had liquids and then MAYBE mushies...

Have you called your doc?

thx bella, i'll try pineapple juice right now.

The coordinator at my doc's office said to try either pineapple juice or meat tenderizer. I bought both, but have not had anything stuck yet, so I can't speak from personal experience. If you do decide to get meat tenderizer, I suggest the unflavored kind. It's a powder, so you would add some to Water. Unfortunately, I don't know how much.

Also, call your doctor's office first thing on Monday! =) Good luck!

If you had something stuck in your band, you would not feel it there. It would be more like between your breasts and you would have large amounts of saliva coming up. This soon after surgery, you should not even be consuming anything that would get stuck. I assume you are still on liquids. You may have just irritated your throat/epiglottis by mashing your finger against it...plus it could still be irritated from the tube they put down it during surgery.. If you are worried though, you could call your dr tomorrow.

I was thinking the exact thing that Mandi said---maybe that part of your throat was irritated by the breathing tube and it is still a little swelled back there. I hope you feel better soon.

thx for all the ideas! My doc calls this "phase 2" it's titled full liquids, but includes oatmeal, fruit smashed with fork, yogurts and Soups if i smash noodles up with fork. NO i haven't cheated to all of those wondering "just what I've gotten stuck if I'm on liquids" and no I don't poke my fingers into my throat (I was trying to give you guys a visual of where I was talking about) I did think the same thing about why it would be so high up instead of in the stomach. I'm thinking it might be a blueberry piece from the yogurt that I didn't smash/chew enough or the only thing I can think of is I missed a piece of chicken that I pulled out of the Soup.

Thanks again for all the suggestions..I will try pineapple juice as soon as I get to the store this morning and call the doctors office (he's out of town till next wk) if that doesn't work.

If it's been 2 days I bet it's swelling in your throat, seems like any food stuck there would have gone either up or down in that much time. Maybe the breathing tube, or something you drank along the way irritated it or you could have the start of a respiratory infection. Hope you can get it resolved soon, that sounds really uncomforatble.

I have had that feeling in the exact same place. It is not food being stuck because food doesn't get stuck in that location. My throat does occasionally get irritated there, and it is definitely right above the collar bone.

I drink hot teas when it is like that and just give it a couple of days. It goes away on its own without too much fuss. pineapple juice has been known to help with stuck food, but I don't think you have stuck food by the location.

I had got something stuck a couple of weeks ago and it was actually stuck in the band. It took three hours for it to come up. I felt like I could not breathe, had severe slimming. You should absolutely call your dr.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
