Raw Food/Juicing

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I've been considering going the 'raw food' route and have just starting doing some research. Is anyone else eat just raw foods? Do you have suggestions for getting started?

I also just bought a Samson juice extractor and am looking for some good recipes. So if you have some (fruit or veg.) I would love to get them.

If you have good websites on this topic I would also be grateful if you sent them along.

Thanks!

That's similar feedback I have heard from others. Do you have any recipes or websites you used to determine what to eat?

Thanks!

I have only been juicing for a month! I love it, I even have my kids drinking it now. After my step dad completed his radiation and chemo

we have been reading alot about juicing! I went to Barnes and bought a book and with its recipes it tells you the benefit of that recipe. Anyway this is my usual.....

2-3 apples

1 celery stalk

3 carrots

1 thin slice of ginger

I have also added cukes, beets and orange slices!! Yum

I would never go completely raw but I know that it does make you feel good.

Good luck with your juicing!!

Thank so much! That sounds good. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

I just bought a nice juicer about two months ago and have basically just done juice. SO much better then store bought without all that sugar added. I probably wouldn't go full raw either but I definitely want to get more creative with what I make.

Ruth,

I have a ton of sites, blogs, books, etc. Probably your best bet is to start with Alissa Cohen (alissacohen.com) or her raw food forum, rawfoodtalk.com these are great places to get a lay of the land. She has an incredible raw "cook" book with plenty of recipes. I highly recommend it. For inspiration, Google Angela Stokes. She lost over 160 pounds eating raw foods, and is now very well respected in the community. She has her own website and blog.

I am waiting for approval for the band, but you can bet during recovery I will be feasting on green smoothies and the like. When I get to the soft food stage, I have in mind many raw food recipes that include soaked, blended nuts and fresh vegetables. I think it will be a great way to get the needed Vitamins and Protein I'll need in a soft, small quantity.

This is the green smoothie my son and I drank all the time last year. He was 3 at the time.

Young Coconut (or 1 cup water)

Frozen banana

Frozen pineapple

spinach

Agave or other natural sweetener as needed.

Blend until smooth.

The most popular book out there in terms of the benefits of green smoothies is Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko. The Boutenko's are a very popular raw food family.

There are a host of other raw gurus I can mention. Most will tell you 100% raw is best. I disagree. The consensus, both scientific and popular, supports a diet of roughly 75% raw foods. For me, a 100% raw diet was expensive and unrealistic. I do hope to get to 75% eventually, though.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
