Your pre-op diet is going to be determined by your surgeon and his/her requirements. So surgeons require no pre-op diet, while so are very strict and require a couple weeks of liquids. My surgeon, Dr. Maher (Richmond, VA) required that I lose 20 pounds before surgery. I could do this anyway I wished. I went on a low carb diet (these work best for me) and managed to drop 20 pounds in one month. After having the surgery scheduled I was required to do two weeks of liquids prior to surgery. I have to say that the low carb diet before hand put me in perfect position to transition into liquids (no withdrawl from sugar, carbs, etc.). So, talk to your surgeon and follow their requirements.

Thank goodness my dr does not require a pre op diet. The nutritionist recommended that I start chewing my food more thoroughly and increasing my Protein intake now to start getting used to the changes that will happen after banding.

Besides, if I could stick to a diet I wouldn't need the band

Well, I've been a lurker here for awhile (this is my first post). But I am scheduled to get banded on the 12th of August. MY Dr. requires two weeks of liquids only. I tried to see if Scotch qualified as a liquid...to no avail. But starting Tuesday of next week, I'm officially out of the buffet line.

I do like the idea of no carbing until Tuesday to get me weaned off of carbs. Anyone have any thoughts?

Hey Junior. I see no problem with low carbing it until you get on the liquid diet. If you do decide to do that, you might join the people in this thread:

Best of luck to you on the 12th!

The pre-op is usually two weeks before the surgery. But I started a month before my surgery date. Cutting all carbs, trying to shrink my liver so there would not be any problems during the surgery and to help the doctor get to my stomach easier. The more weight you lose before surgery is better for you and the easier for the doctor.

Hang in there, your surgery date will be here before you know it.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this question but I need to know how you all found a nutritionist for your eval. I live in a rural No FL town and even our nearest community hospitals don't offer this and my surgeon wants my packet in 30 days. Thanks. MarilynC

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
