Well where to begin. I had the lap band because my girlfriend had the bypass and lost so much hair that I wouldn’t even consider having it done. If I would have known that I would have still lost this much hair with the band I would have gotten the bypass WTF. My damn hair is all over the bed in the shower on the bathroom floor just everywhere. I started taking the Biotin supplements about 2 weeks ago and have started using this Shampoo Nioxin that my home girl hipped me to thank god. It is expensive as hell, but my hair is worth the world to me. Never been big on weaves. I will rock the ponytails but when it gets down to gluing or sewing no thanks. My problem has been that I am self pay so I paid 500.00 to get a fill and I think those smart asses put in 2cc's instead of .2cc's so since April 9 I haven’t eaten shit. I know that I am too tight but it will cost me 300.00 to get some taken out. I ain’t got it, so I have tried to stick it out and what a battle it has been. I mean yeah I can eat the regular grits, ice cream and Soup but one can only eat so much of that until you don’t want anymore. The Protein Shakes suck, I’m sick of those to but that’s the only Protein I can get so I drink them not faithfully but I do. Good luck to you all but this Hair loss shit sucks.

:ohmy:I am so sorry that you are having such a bad experience with your hair situation. When I talk about weaves and extensions it's just to make light of a serious and hurtful situation. I hope that things will get better-it sounds like you are on the right track to getting your hair healthy. Keep us updated on your progress.

I have been banded for almost 2 years and I have not had any problems with Hair loss. I have always taken Biotin since WLS which is a supplement to help with hair and nails. As a matter of fact my petite 21 year old neice had thin hair and has used biotin which has helped her hair greatly.

I was told that too. I was already thinking about loc'ing my hair again anyway, so I decided to go ahead and do it now. I did notice that it loc'd alot faster than before, so maybe the shedding helped me in this case.

:cursing:

Ladies,

I have been taking the Biotin and taking my Multivitamin in hopes of prevneting this, but it's not working. I've been quiet about it, but I guess I shouldn't have been, but I had a fill on the 11th and I was overfilled. I knew it when I was trying to drink that damn Water in the lobby of the office and I started having gurgling noises. I figured that it was just tight right then and that it would eventually loosen up. But it hasn't. My next appointment is next week and I am going to tell them to take some out because I try to eat, but I can barely keep anything down.

I know it was stupid, but I figured if I could deal with it for a couple of weeks (three weeks between fills now) that I would be able to lose more weight quicker. I'm a smart woman, but dumb logic got the best of me this time. I hadn't really noticed the hair loss myself until I combed my hair in the bathroom over the sink and I looked in the sink and freaked out. My husband noticed it and was just sweeping it up in our bathroom and never said anything. I've never had a weave, wig, ponytail or anything (hard to believe I know :huh2:). But a sista can't afford to be walking around with no hair at all. I have a cute face, but I wouldn't wanna rock a short style either. I need advice to be able to keep my do!

In the morning I can only drink hot tea, because anything else that I eat always comes right back up, no matter how little I bite or how much I chew. Most of the time, since my fill on the 11th, I have hot tea in the morning, no lunch or either a small salad with chicken if I can keep it down and for dinner, usually chicken or seafood or a steak. I can usually keep down whatever I eat for dinner (not really sure why).

I'm gonna have them take out some of the Fluid because I know better, but I need to work quickly to save my hair. I have the Biotin, I have the multi-Vitamin and I have started on taking the Protein shakes again to make sure that I am getting in the necessary Protein. Any advice to help me out?:confused2:

I didn't get the bypass because of the Hair loss too. I just got sisterlocks in June. I have been doing Protein, and taking Biotin. I have not been banded yet. I will watch my protein and hopefully keep my locks.

I thought about getting sisterlocks for awhile but the upkeep is too expensive. I lost a ton of hair when I was pregnant (think George Jefferson) and had to rock a wig when I came back from maternity leave. Because of how horrible I felt bald it was one of the reasons I decided against gastric. I also decided to go natural and go with twist instead of sister locks, all in hopes of getting my hair back to its healthy natural state and not losing so much of it after surgery. I will keep my fingers clasped (as in prayer).

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
