2 weeks post op and...

Recommended Posts

Although this is what I always wanted but I have NO appetite today whatsoever! And it's driving me crazy I feel like I did just one day after surgery, thing is I don't want my body to like start to store fat and all that jazz. I forced myself to eat 4 crackers with Peanut Butter and that seemed to like to the fill up my tummy tum tum! I feel like I have eaten a buffet or something my stomach is saying DON'T you dare put anything in me!!!!! I drank on bottled Water, and that is all I can feel I can take.

Question: Is this how restriction feels? If so I sure don't want to be filled aggressively the frist time I do know that. Or can it be just one of those days?

I felt the same way for about 5 weeks after surgery. Although my doctor gave very explicit instruction on food intake-clear liquids to full liquids to soft solids beginning the 6th week. Always eating Proteins first. Crackers and Peanut Butter are big no no's even now. After week 5 I began to get my appetite back and made bad food choices resulting in a weight gain of 4lbs. I had a fill last week and feel restriction now. I have had some clear body signals if I eat too much too fast. I feel great this week and have started exercising everyday which was a real kickstart to serious weight loss. Good luck to you!

Hi

I'm 1 week post op and don't really feel like eating much, but at least drink your Protein and you will probably feel better. I just started soft foods and the scrambled egg was great. But I feel full very easy with anything and don't dare eat to the point of really full. Don't put to much pressure on your self. Have you found a drink you really like. Be creative in doctoring your drinks. I had sugar free Carnation Breakfast and Divincis sugarfree, 0cal 0carb flavorings. Do you have a support group in your area?

I ordered some whey Protein just waiting to get it  I ate eggs last night only one and some refriend Beans and got full fast. I need to find some good mushie foods that I am able to eat.

I need to find a drink that I like, your right!! I am now drinking Crystal light and KO Protein Water, propel and just plain Water. Those Protein shakes don't settle with me too well, I'd rather have water vs them. Which is the reason I ordered the protein viles.

I am on 3 days Clear Liquids, 5 weeks full liquids... I can't have eggs or refried Beans until at least week 4 or 5... I'm afraid to wat any mushies before then!! Not that I feel much like eating. My surgery was yesterday. I just drank 2 oz of broth and feel as though I ate at a buffet!

I liked carnation instant Breakfast made with milk, gives you not to bad Protein count. GNC has Protein Shots that have 42 grams of protein. I usually split it into because the body only will take so much. I usually add it to Water or juice. It is hard at first to get into a eating routine. I still alot of times find myself not really hungry but will eat just because it what I've always done.

IMHO, it's just one of those days.

But, how are you getting to actually eat things already two-weeks post op. I'll be two weeks post op on Friday and can start "mushies". I haven't chewed anything!

I will be two weeks post-op tomorrow and my doctor today told me to eat solid food ONLY. He wants my stomach to get back in shape. I guess it is different for everyone.

Wow! I was told that if I ate solid foods too early, I risk a slip of the band later on. It interferes with the healing process, and the stomach is just not ready for solid foods...

We have to remember everyone is different and everyone's surgeon has their own beliefs. I don't think my doctor, who has done a ton of these things, would suggest it if it was going to hurt me. We have to trust our doctors.

I think your right everyone and every ones doctor is different. I mean I didn't even have a pre-op diet only no eating after midnight and I was fine. I was able to start mushies one week to the day after surgery per my doctor no mention of a slip or it might hurt me :confused2: so who knows?!?!?! Today I am not feeling like eating either maybe just working too much! I am going to eat some Soup though for lunch even if I have to force myself a little bit just to get something in my tummy I mean it's growling but I am not hungry!!!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
