New-comer on board Two yrs banded w/Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, looking forward to having an exchange with you. Hope to become an asset also more than that i have some questions that i haven't seen addressed ...like the band loosens at times and restricts at times but doesnt seem to indicate when, so that some mornings I'm tight and some evenings I'm tight and viceversa and i haven't seen anyone address this. can anyone relate to this? :confused2: also redefined foods go down better than unrefined ones and sad to say i've developed some bad habits due to this yet i long to eat veggies and just eat healthier.Help! I been banded two yrs so prefer those responding be the same. HELP! :confused2::confused2:

I have noticed the same thing - my band is very fickle. I have had 3 fills and was ready to go for a fourth when all of a sudden it tightened up on me. For the past 3 weeks it has a mind of it's own...sometimes I can eat, other times I can't. Some foods I can eat one day and not eat the next. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason so I just go day by day, or should I say meal by meal. I was banded on April 7th of this year.

Hi there,

I was banded in March of 2007, so am technically almost 16 months post-op banded rather than the two years you requested. Nevertheless, I hope my personal insight and experience will be of assistance to you.

I, too, have noticed that my band is very finicky and have discussed this with my doctor. According to him, this is all a very normal process. The reason behind this is the fact that your stomach is nothing more than a muscle which contracts and expands at various times with (or even without) provocation.

Although I didn't find true restriction until about four months ago, I have noticed all along that my band tightness varies from day to day at times. One thing remains constant: my band is always too tight in the mornings to tolerate food and I drink a Protein Shake for Breakfast everyday instead of eating solid food. Somewhere between noon and 1:00 PM, I find I am able to tolerate foods and I begin with 3 ounces of lean Protein (fish, tuna, soy). I find that by 5:00 or 6:00, my band is often 'wide open' and I am able to eat just about anything within reason.

The amount of restriction will also vary depending on your hormonal cycle (my band is absolutely contstricting during the few days before the onset and during my period).

I hope this helps...

hi all! by tight do you mean you feel a little sick to your stomach? or you try to eat and it doesn't work out?

i feel sick to my stomach (not enough to get sick tho) every morning when i wake up. i wonder if that is my band being tight? i'm a jazzy june 2008 bandster so i'm not sure yet what this means. i have already noticed that i feel the band in the morning when i wake up - especially if i slept on my side.

mentally, i'm working on getting used to looking forward to my little meal and then realizing sometimes i can't really eat much of even the tiny portion! it's a big learning experience.

someone posted here somewhere that even the barimetric pressure (i.e. a storm coming) can affect our bands. that definately affects my sinuses and has forever so i can see it could effect the band as well.

thanks!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
