Are THESE the gas pains - Day 5 of banding

Recommended Posts

I feel pressure in my chest and abdomen area, near my sternum. I have not had a BM since last Thursday (6/26). Even if I get up and walk, it doesn't go away...but it does eventually go away. So, is this gas?

I did buy the GasX strips lastnight, but don't want to take them for nothing...

You guys are all so helpful. This website has become my best support since the surgery. :smile2:

Taking the Gas-x will help! Mine was excruciating left shldr pain for a good long week. Actually, gas-x didn't help me. I used MOM and then Rolaids multi symptom.

Yep, those are the gas pains! I didn't get them until the swelling went down from my surgery. Use the gas-x strips they can't hurt you and if the gas moves up to your shoulder area, you are gong to wish you got more of it out before hand. Good Luck and congrats on your band.

My best guess would be gas. My nurse in the hospital told me that they have to fill u with co2 when doing the surgery. So you will have excess gas. I had my gas under my ribs and in my shoulder. I am 2 1/2 weeks out and still have shoulder pain from gas. But my nurse also said, Gas-x wont do a thing, its like taking gas-x for a headache. Hope i could help and good luck!!

Yeah, and I can hear all this noise in my abdomen area...the gas voices. Yeah, the GasX isn't really touching it. Man, it hurts! I definately went back to work too soon, but thankfully after today, I have the rest of the week off!

My gas pains lasted for two weeks. I had the SHARPEST pain inside my left shoulder. It felt like i was being stabbed with a knife. I used gas-x and it helped a little, but mostly I was told to MOVE. The more you walk, the better.

WALK WALK WALK ,, the more you move, the better. Even little frequent trips around your home.

Hope it goes away fast for you!!!

thughes113 that really sounds like the dreaded post-op gas pains but I would call the doctor about not having a BM in so many days because that can cause pain and discomfort too. He may suggest a stool softener.

My doctor had me take fleets before surgery which cleaned my system out. Then with a 3 week pure liquid diet afterwards, I only had 2 BM's in the 3 week span, and they were both very liquid as well (liquid in - liquid out). I didn't start having BM's again until I started on foods again and at first I was constipated. I was told to get Traditional Medicinals Smooth Move herbal all natural tea. I got mine at Mothers Market for around $4.00. One cup and I was right as rain and have been ever since! You can get it in natural and chocolate flavors. It is a natural herbal stimulant laxative and caffeine free to boot!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
