Good Morning! Well 2 of those pounds came back this morning UGGH but my ticker only goes in one direction..

Mike, I am not sure what type of questions you are looking for.. for me the questions that were important were. How many bands have you done, is there a pre op diet, how much will this cost me, how long is the process and what types of tests do I need to get.

I hope that helps.

have a great day JUNIES!!

Oh and thanks to all who voted for me and my hubby!! We find out on the 5th if we won. If we win we get a limo ride to and from casino, hotel and restaurant, hotel for the night and gourmet dinner for two. I am keeping my fingers crossed xoxox

Those 2 will come back off shortly. I hope that means you are feeling better and that stomach bug is gone. Good luck on the contest!! My ticker only goes one direction too!

addy: I have the Realize band and I think they are all the same size. I think my band will hold 9cc and I have 7.6cc now. I read that the type of band I have is softer so it takes more fill to restrict. The good part of my band is is has less chance of slippage and a lower profile port.

Hope this info helps. This is the first fill I have ever really felt restriction. The others I only felt it if I ate too fast. Now I really feel full for a long time. I also get full really quick!

Hi there, just looking to talk to people who have had the lap band put in and what their experiences are/were like. Both good and bad. I want to know all the stuff that doctors don't necessarily tell you. I'd like info from real people who've done weither it's good or bad.

Congrats all you 100 pounders. I'm so happy for you. I can't wait to get there. I've been stuck for about a month at 86 pounds. However, for that month i've been doing 30 mins of weights and 30 mins of cardio 6 days a week, man i'm beat!! The scale hasn't moved, but I think its because i'm building muscle. I'm hoping it starts moving again soon, otherwise its time for a second fill.

Thanks Cathy, that does help. I am thinking about just calling and asking??

Katies, I just finished a nutrition class and she explained to use that although a pound is a pound, muscle is thinner than fat. Which explains why we lose inches and not pounds. We are replacing that bumpy fat with thinner muscle. Sounds like you need to measure, you may be quite happily surprised. I did that for awhile, lost inches not pounds.

Hope you all had a good day,

Allie, I hope you get to have that date, it sounds wonderful! I need to vote again

Hi Junies,

I just had an AHAH! moment :w00t:. After looking at what ya'll eat, I suddenly realized that I drink coffee, every morning, per dr. office, to "open" up my band. Only one of you listed coffee or hot drink. For us (In T town) it is "stay in the box", a list of rules, that we are suppose to do daily. Well today I just got up and ate Breakfast without drinking coffee, I ate slow only 1/2c. and I feel full and satisfied. Usually I am starving. I know I am not at the sweet spot yet, but!! At least maybe I can start to control my eating. I think that since I am not at the sweet spot, the coffee was opening me up even more  and no restriction at all.

Well, psych 101 :) I feel like I learned something else from this site, you guys are great.

Hope you have a great day, gotta go to the college and take tests. Have a blessd one!

hey addy - question - did you put sweetner in your coffee? i find that when i do that (not coffee for me but tea) i am way more hungry the rest of the day - particularly artificial sweetners vs. plain old sugar.

just a thought.

hi Mike, i think most of us if not all of us would say it's the best decision that we ever made for ourselves! for me, losing weight did not work before the band for at least 10 years - on many programs, with tons of exercise. i have insulin resistance big time and this has helped a lot. i'm off 3 medications and i feel very fit - tho still fat but working on that.

it is not all a picnic - it is a serious thing to do - surgery was not fun for me (i had a hernia fix at the same time). but once healed, it was amazing to see the scale go down consistently! you absolutely have to watch what you eat, how you eat, when you eat. it is not an 'easy way out' as some say. but it WORKS!

caution - overfills (if you get an adjustment and it's too tight) do NOT help. they can bring on acid reflux which has stopped all weight loss for me now and is causing issues that i need to address with a gastroenterologist - which i am doing now. then i hope to get back to losing the rest of what i need to lose.

good luck to you - someone who was banded before me told me 'it's an individual journey' and that's very true. and yours will be different from everyone else here.

to me, the benefits far out weight the risks. i eat less, i never feel too full or bloated anymore, i move better, i feel better, i look better, i'm healthier, i do things i haven't done in years (like ride a mountain bike again) and i no longer feel invisible to the world. i'm here and happier and still working at it. the band is a life changer - no doubt!

thanks Lucy and Addy (there is so much posted here it's hard to keep up)! i feel better right now - the endoscopy test is wednesday morning. have to get all Fluid out of the band on tuesday afternoon. THAT scares the heck out of me but the promise they'll put it right back in soon after and that they do this all the time when people need tests like this. i'm hoping they find an easily treatable issue and that it is NOT the band - maybe it's just aggrevating the issue and isn't causing it. we'll see. i'll let you know. thanks for your support!

addy, i had a hernia fix too at the time of banding - i think maybe the band is irritating the area that was fixed? or maybe there is scar tissue? i have no idea. i'm glad the dr. is going in for a look!

I think I finally figured out how to post a picture so if it works here's a night before surgery picture and one at 95 lbs, still haven't taken a 100 lb one. In the 95 lb one I am holding out the jeans I am wearing in the before.

Hey Long great pic, thanks for sharing.

Oh, I don't think I could give up my coffee. Well, I guess I could but I don't want too. I have come to love my coffee in the morning

Well, I think I might go get a fill this coming Monday. I had one at the begining of January, but I'm not sure it has done much. I have bounced between 207-204 since Christmas. But to be honest, I know I have been eating too much junk....chips, Cookies and candy. I really need to stop but I'm having trouble stoping!!! What is wrong with me?!!?!?!??!

Well, have a good evening everyone.

Here comes the June Bug that got left behind!

Hey Junies!

I opened my mail today and found an approval for my surgeon to reband me (plus any of several other procedures), so now I need to get my head back into the game and decide if and when I want to do this again.

I definitely want to get rebanded, but the timing is a little uncertain. My DH lost his job a few weeks ago, so he's seriously under-employed, which could be good because he'd be here to help the first few days, but also sucks, if he gets a new job right before and can't take off.

Hmmm. I'm off to pick him up from his pt job now, and plan to tell him about the approval.

So yeah! and hmmmm.

Always ;-)

HUNZI! It is go good to see you back! Congrats on the approval! I remember your troubles and it so good you are ready to get back on the band-wagon! I say go for it, things will work themselves out!

Greyhoundmom, good luck on the test. I hope they get you straight soon! I thought I had and over fill at my last fill, but it is much better now a week later.

addy, I drink a cup of coffee too....I wonder...

Katies: 86 lbs is wonderful...

Where is Apples and Strike? and all the other June bugs for that matter?

Have a great day everyone!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
