Today is the first day I have felt halfway decent. Thank the Lord my stomach has stopped cramping! I will probably wait until Tuesday to start running again.

I ran a 5k on the treadmill on tuesday and with .10 miles to go I got a Sharp pain right where my port it.. I had to Hold my stomach in to be able to finish the 5k.. It stopped hurting right away and hasnt hurt since..

Anyone ever had this before?

Congrats on finishing the 5K! I have to wear a compression shirt when I run to hold down my tummy and support my port or else I have some serious pain issues.

I got some compression shorts.. they seem to be helping some with the belly jiggy.. Still have some pain though, near the port area.. Did abs today at the gym and now that area is sore again..

Hope everyone is good..

I am still plugging away.. Being trying to run outside one day a week because My 5k is in about 4 weeks.. Need to get used to running outside... I am up to 15 miles a week, running 4 days a week.. I feel pretty good... I think I am addicted to running heheh But I am being careful not to add more miles or speed fast or hurt myself..

I have started a cross training program. Its nine weeks also. I did day 5 of 27 today. I have been blogging about it. Today it consisted of running for 5 min. then stop and do 5 push ups and then run again for 30 min.. I told my husband it was harder than just running because every time you stop you have to convince yourself to start again. :bolt: Tuesday I have to jump rope for 2 min and then do 10 sit ups & 10 push ups and then back to jumping rope and repeat as many times as you can for 30 min. I'm not convinced I can jump rope for 2 solid min. we will see....

I am doing much better! I only got in 2 runs last weeks. I went to see Grace Potter and the Nocturnals in Atlanta Friday night, so my weekend was pretty busy....but awesome! 4 hour drive to Atlanta and then 4 hour drive back. It messed up the rest of my weekend, but it was so worth it!

I ran this morning. I did another day of week 4. I am doing great with it....I think I will take a stab at week 5 on my next workout. Week 5 is where I ventured off of the program last time and created my own thing. We'll see how it goes this time.

Liftingchic....15 miles a week is AWESOME! Congrats and keep it up! Good luck on the upcoming 5k!

Congrats marsmom! That's great!

Hope everyone is doing good. I was going to move on to week 5 this past week, but that has been put on hold. I went to the dermatologist earlier this week and she cut a couple of places out on my leg and arm, so I have stitches. The stitches don't come out until Aug. 10th, so no runs until then.....darn it! I was so excited to start week 5! Since I won't be running until Aug. 10th, I'll probably have to repeat week 4 again before moving on.

Good morning Everyone!

Glad to find this thread again...started doing the C25K last summer, and ran my first 5K in October 2009. Planning to do another this fall, and in the meantime, I've done part of the C28K program.

I'm at the point now where I can run a 5k just about any time I want...that feels really good! In fact, I ran the distance on Sunday morning and chopped 5 min off my time from the 5K I did last fall.

I'm not the fastest runner - my first 5k I completed in about 47 min, this Sunday I did it in 42 min. I hope to get my time down into the low 30's eventually. It fits the amount of time I normally have to run, so it's perfect for me.

Don't know if I'll go back to the C28K - I stopped because the workout were taking almost an hour!

Nice to see everyone's progress and hard work!

Congrats to all of you who have done a 5K - I just started the C25K today. Its been a little over 2 weeks since my surgery and today was the first day of jogging in a really long time.

I was glad to hear that other people have to hold their port when jogging and that compression shirt/shorts help - I'll be looking into those tomorrow.

Wish me luck, I'm planning to run my first 5K in 15 years this November with a couple of friends. I used to run in high school and college, so I'm looking forward to getting back to it again.

Hi all,

I am about to start week 3 this week. I am doing my running at the gym on the treadmill and I only run at a speed of 4.5-4.6. I guess that is good considering I have never run (or as I figure JOGGED) before. Is that speed ok or should I be pushing myself to go faster? Also, I have heard it is harder to run outside. Should I be trying to train on pavement vs the treadmill?

Thank for all your support!

:-) Katie

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
