Luluc... You did awesome! That's such a great time! How'd you feel when you were crossing the finish line? Were there a lot of people there cheering? I know that was a feeling that I won't soon forget. The flowers sound great... very thoughtful. Triathalon sounds really good... its right up your alley for challenging!

I decided the day of my run that my next challenge was to run another 5k but to shave a lot of time off. So I understand what you mean about "what's next". I've accomplished this and don't want to forget and move on... I want to keep it up!

I ran 5k this afternoon and kept pushing myself to go harder. Everytime I'd slow down and loose steam... I'd tell myself to pick it up. I still am not very fast, but I'm learning :crying:.

thanks kathy/gg - the crowd was really awesome ; there was wine tasting going on & a jazz band playing, a whole days worth of activites.

i struggled to take it all in and appreciate where i've come w/out hubby there because he my biggest fan & also the only one to put me in my place at times:wink_smile:.

intersting tid-bit; we had to put a chip in our tennis shoe - which determined our official time. i swore i got under 30min; but my little ticker said differently.....

my girlfriends called to take me out and Celebrate - but i knew that would mean a patio & LOTS of margaritas ... and i want to hit the gym in the AM. this is one of the BIGGEST NSV"s for me; a yr ago - i would not have turned down a 'rita.

Luluc... what a great NSV!!! don't worry about the chip's official time. I've read on a few running threads that that happens a lot. Something about the chip taking some time to register at first... so go with your own time that you witnessed!

I went to the gym this evening and they were closed. I didn't know they closed early on Saturday. So, I drove over to the bike/walk trail and ran outside today. I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I really concentrated on pacing myself and I did pretty good. I went about 3 miles and actually ran most of it. I walked a couple of minutes a few times in between running.

The time went by faster today. I think the treadmill will be a bit boring after running outside.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Ladies, look at waht we have accomplished in such a short time. This thread was started June 28. That is just over 3 months ago. Do yall remember in the beginning when that 90 sec running interval was difficult!!! Now we are talking about increasing our run times on 5K, and triathalons and such. Such an amazing group of women!!!! I am honored to be able to know you all!!!

Hey everybody, the race was awesome!! My time was 36:48, personal best for me! When I saw the finish line I started to tear up and cry because I was so proud of myself. It was extremely hard though. It was the first time that I ran the outside in the heat for 5k straight. I've ran outside before only a couple of times but it was early on with my training. I definately under estimated the amount of energy it would take to do this and it surely drained me toward the end. I was only able to get in 1/2 of a scrambled egg and a cup of OJ down before the race. So needless to say I was pretty pooped out toward the end.

Here are a few pics that were taken after the race. My only comment to this is that I need to realize that I no longer need to get the 2XL shirts.

I couldn't attach the pics for some reason but if you look at my profile you will see them.

Thanks all of you for the encouragement. Great job Luluc for your run. You're awesome!!

To everyone reading this:

I am proud to call us ..... RUNNERS. We did it.

A group of overweight, out of sharp "girls".

We encouraged each other through the rough times, and celebrated the accomplishments.

Like Renewedhoped says; now we are running 5K, 1/2 marathons and Tri's.

If you a new to this thread and wonder if you can do it - there is no doubt you can do it.

Our motto is: one foot in front of the other!!!

Hey didn't we use to have a group name? It was an acromym! We will have to read back through the thousands of posts to find it; unless one of you remember it.

I have a big job today - I am going to try to run 70 minutes. (walk breaks) I have my 1/2 marathon in 2 weeks!!!!!!

I better get my butt in gear!!:tongue2:

Memom... you have it in you to accomplish this. Most of us have been at this since July, so are progressing along. Review our earlier posts to see what we were dealing with. We all followed the couch to 5k schedule and then modified a bit as we felt necessary! I would never have thought of myself as a runner... now I'm proud to say "I'm a runner!" Keep it up!

CONGRATS tootie!!! - what FANTASTIC time, espcially for not running outside often, really a great accomplishment....seeing that finnish line sure does make you pick up speed from w/in when you think...do i have much left.??.

very proud to be among some amazing women here - in all stages of this journey of "running". next saturday will be my band'versary & when i started this process of getting healthy & fit i was obsessed about the scale, as 40 is approaching - i'm enjoying shifting the focus on being an athlete.

those lurking....jump in, drink the kool aide - it's addicting:w00t:

Finally... Finally.. (needed repeating) I was able to encourage my DH to really restart his running! He's a runner... but had not really been out doing it for a long time. He'd go occassionally, but not consistent. Then when I finished my race last week, I registered us for a run on Dec. 31st and got him to agree to train along with me. I've been following the training schedule all week, but he hadn't. I was getting really discouraged. He's under a major amount of stress, which he does not handle well. He has panic attacks that make him think he's having a heart attack, and he gets frustrated way too easily with the kids. So when he's stressed, he's absolutely no fun to have around! But when he runs, it improves his attitude 3000 percent!!! That's why I've wanted him to really restart it.

Well yesterday I was to run a long run (5k) and then today for an easy run of 30 min (lol that's easy - yeah in who's world!). So what we did was I started my run and then 10 min later he headed out with the kids and dog for a walk and I ended my run at the park where they were. Then we walked home. Then in the evening he was encouraged enough to do a 5k run!!! Today, we decided that I would start my run and he'd take the kids and dog on the walk, then when I got to the park, he left for his run. So that's 2 days in a row!!! And now he's talking about us going on Tue morning together after the kids are off to school and before he goes to work! Yeah... he's hooked again!!!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
