Kristen.... I was so much a "band geek" but it went beyond that... I was also a "choir geek"... all round nerd (and I do mean Round) LOL. I played the flute too.

Ok, I'm heading off for my race. The kids and DH were going to run it with me, but DH now has a stress fracture on his foot so is in a walking cast and off work to let it heal. So the kids and him are going to cheer me on at the half way point and then be there at the finish line.

Whoooo Hooooo Kathy!!! WTG!! Congrats for accomplishing both of your goals! Loved your pics too, you look so happy!

I haven't ran in few days, but plan on running sometime tomorrow. I am getting my much needed fill in the morning and I am sooooo glad! I REALLY need it!

Yeah Kathy!!! GREAT pics. Way to go!

GA, glad you're keeping at it.

It appears that I'm not going to get past week 6 until after my surgery. When I do the 25 straight minutes of running, my foot really complains. It's frustrating and running with limitations is sooooo hard. When I was training for a race, it kept me motivated but knowing I'm just running makes it feel a whole lot like being a hampster on a wheel. :-(

Sorry Suzanne! I know that must be really frustrating. I'm sure after your surgery, you will heal up quickly and be running a 5k again in no time. Take care!

I got my fill today! I was missing 1 cc, but they still do not seem too concerned about it. I just hope this one will LAST! I'm going to wait until tomorrow to run. I've been on Clear Liquids today and only got 3 hours of sleep last night. I'm POOPED!

hey all,

Woo Hoo Kathy, YAY for u. im gonna walk tomorrow then go back to c25k. i really miss it, but feel like i need to rebuild the foundation.

went to a different running store today to research hr monitors and distance, etc. was looking at a garman FR 60 w/ foot pad. best value that i can afford. looking for feedback on it if y'all know.

hubby shocked me today when we were there, he was soooo suppportive, bought me a runner girl magnet for my car even. he also wants to get me a light for when i run at nite since the days are getting shorter and it seems the only real time i have to run. I know its small stuff, but made me feel really good especially since he was getting motivated too.

not sure that i told y'all, but i had a very rough weekend. friday i was picking up my daughter from school. left my 14 y/o son in the car. came out of school and saw a car parked next to mine. they pulled away and my son realized that the "person" in the car had opened my car door and took my purse. he didnt even notice it was so fast. and they had the nerve to do it with him in the car. im actually glad he didnt do anything cuz he could have been hurt if he tried to stop them. the a$$holes (sorry for language) got everything of my id credit cards of course and my mp3. so no tunes when i run unless i can find my son's nano.

only good thing about putting stuff like my license back is that my old licnese was from when i was at my heaviest and not a blond. lol. this pic is much better on my license. tc all and i'll keep posting as i feel so inclined.

TC,

Carol

I re-ran W5D1 last night. It went really well. Thanks for the new podcast Brandy! It was MUCH easier with the better music. That Robert Ulrich one was awful. ha ha

The foot gets very angry if I run more than 2 miles, so I'm kinda stuck with Week 5 and Week 6 right now. Can't get past six. When I do the Friday runs, my foot just kills me.

Oh well, at least I'm still able to run and I'm breaking a sweat so it still feels like exercise. I have increased my speed some, so that's a good thing.

Carol- Sorry your purse got stolen. That happened to me a few years ago. At the time I worked at a bank and my bank keys were in my purse. I was so scared I was going to get fired, lol. They changed the locks and all was fine. I'm sooooo glad your son wasn't hurt!

Suzanne- Soooo sorry your foot is hurting so bad. Way to power through it though. Keep up the good work!

I started week 2 of the c25k today. It went really well. Actually, I had no trouble at all doing it. The weather here was GORGEOUS today! Great day for running outside. I'm really feeling this fill...which I'm really excited about. I did wake up coughing up reluxy type stuff though. I've been banded for 2 years now and that has never happened to me. I had to chop up my pill into little tiny pieces last night and I think I should have stayed up a little longer to let it finish going down. I will take it much earlier tonight!

Take care running buddies!! Keep up the great work!

I have been away for a few days. I fell of the wagon last week and did nothing. I should have ran then knowing I was going to have foot surgury this week. I am not suppose to doing any walking or running these next two weeks blah, blah. So I going to try and do the weight training during that time.

I saw my Doctor today and told him the little successes I have been having and he said that he would run my first 5K with me. Needless to say I was surprised but that is just the way he is. I have finally started losing weight again and I credit that to the C25K and getting more Protein in my deit. If I had not been reading this forum I don't know if I ever would have got kick started again. But I am on my way. WooHoo

Kathy, way to go I love your pictures. Look forward to that being me in the future.

Carol, at least something look came out of your bad experience.

Suzanne, sorry to hear your feet are still paining you.

Love you all, and thanks for being here. Mary

Mary... sorry about the foot. I hope it starts to feel better soon.

Carol... glad your DH is supporting you. Sounds like he's proud of you! As for your purse, here's a link to info on purse stealling scam that we should all watch!! Facinating!

http://www.wimp.com/goodsamaritan

Georgia... yeah, congrats on week 2! As for your band... are you sure you haven't sprung a leak? They say losing a bit is normal, but not a full 1.0 ml, that seems like a lot.

Suzanne... sorry your foot is still hurting, but I'm glad you're able to go for the 20 min. If it seems too boring try changing your route or run location. That always re-energizes me.

Thanks everyone for your support and comments on my race photos. I really had a great time.

This week has been so stressful. I've been away on business since Monday and the next two days I have our Corp. VP visiting for a business review... just a little stressed :) But, when the end of day comes on Friday, it will all be over!

I finally found a family doctor in my city... very hard to come by. And she has agreed to take the training to manage my fills. So I think I'm going to get a small fill soon so I can get the last 15-20 lbs off.

I keep asking them about that and they don't seem real concerned about it. I had not been in about 3 months. It's weird because when I had it checked 3 months ago, it was all accounted for. Sometimes Fluid is missing and sometimes it's not. IF I have a leak, it must be a pretty slow one. Or, there could be a leak at the port area and maybe all the fluid isn't actually going in. Uggghh, I don't know. She said they would start checking it every month and if it ever starts being more than 1 cc missing, they want to do some tests.

It's frustrating because I don't think I've ever had TRUE restriction. This fill seems like the closest I've had to it, but I don't know...

I was just about to start a thread about the C25K.

I'm so excited to get started. Is anyone else out there about to start the program? I think I need a bit of moral support here. I've always HATED running/jogging, but it seems like the logical next step on my fitness journey.

I started with Water aerobics, then started weights, moved to elliptical and then added rowing, and now I think I'm ready to jog.

Wish me luck!

Welcome canoie! I am only on week 2, so I'm pretty much just starting as well. I'm sure you will do great! Congrats on your weight loss!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
