vzghj3- we were banded on the same day! I am horribly hungry now, too! There is absolutely NO restriction since the swelling went down after the 1st week  I won't get my first fill until 8/4 (8 weeks) because i'm out of town..maybe I'll call and beg for one at 5 weeks?? lol

I thought the first fill was always 6 weeks after surgery. Has anyone else had a fill sooner? Seems like 2 1/2 weeks you are hardly even healed yet.

I guess I am the first to report in on my first fill! I had 3 appts today. First was the dietician who seemed pleased that I had lost a few lbs even tho I could eat a horse. I have a realize band and i have to log in my food on their website and my team can get on there and see what i have been eating. So I need to eat more veggies but she was ok with me keeping the calories under 1000 (most) days. Then went to PT. The skinny ***** was not happy that I had not gotten in much exercise. She didn't seem to believe I am still having port pain and cannot do stomach exercises. So she lectured me on all the things I already know and then she dismissed me. Hummph! Then on to see the doc and get my fill. I waited and waited, had it out with the front staff who wanted me to pay $75 when I was told my fills were free. Won that battle, waited some more. Got into the room and talked to his nurse who will be doing all the rest of the fills. She was nice and really encouraging. She was ok with the weight I had lost. Doc came in and we talked a bit. I told him about the soreness and he examined it. He didn't think it was infected, but the scar was red. He put me on 5 days antibiotics just in case. Then he numbed up my belly and that just stung for a second. I tried not to look at that biga$$ needle and he shot in 3ccs. This is only after 28 days since surgery. He is of the thinking that we should get to our sweet spot as soon as possible so we dont get so discouraged. He said if I dont feel any restriction on 3ccs in a few weeks, I can go back sooner than a month and get a second fill. I am likin this guy! They just said to go easy today, soft food and tomorrow I can go to full solids and just be sure to chew everything well and keep the portions small (even if the band isn't telling me to yet). So thats it...hope to hear from the rest of you soon.

Glad I won that battle! Their excuse....the girl who usually handles the charts has been on vacation. gimme a break. Its all computerized so there should have been something in there that said my fills were covered. I should have asked the doc when he first gave me that option to get it in writing. I hope its fixed now.

I go to the doctor tomorrow, but the office clerk told me that I won't be getting a fill. She said he doesn't do them until at least 6 weeks! I hope she is wrong! I need a fill now, I am going to go ready for a fill, nothing to drink or eat, just in case I can get the fill.

I will let you know what they do.

Strikeuptheband! I am impressed, that you got the fill! I have the Realize band too! I use the web site, but I think they could do better on the food bank, I prefer the Daily plate or the Calorie-count.com.

I have to write the stuff down!

Gee Cathy, Maybe your doc should be talkin to my doc! Yesterday they told me (doc & nurse) that they just got back from some seminar on realize and the presenter (i guess people that make the band) said that its really better for people to get their fills as soon as possible which helps keep them losing and not get discouraged. He was willing to see me in 2 weeks to have a 2nd fill if I feel I need one by then. Unfortunately, I will be in a summer class M-TH all of July and unable to get away to get there before the end of July. So I hope I can manage on willpower till the end of this month. So far I feel no different and can still eat a horse.

went in for my 2 week check up and doc said that normally he waits 6 weeks but because I have healed so nicely and I feel zero restriction he'll do it in 2 weeks. So I go in the 17th!

I just got a call from my dr's office and they scheduled me for my first fill on 7/9!!! I'm so excited!!

I just emailed him yesterday and asked if he would consider filling me at 5 weeks instead of 6 (which would have been 8 since I'm going on vacation) and he said he would speak to his staff about scheduling it..so now i'm having my fill at 4 weeks! It can't come soon enough!

Hugs,

I went to the doctor today and he did my first fill!

Strikeuptheband: I guess the doc went to the same seminar, he just forgot to tell the office staff. He told me the same thing, they do the fills sooner with the realize band.

He checked me out and said, "Do you want a fill?" of course I said YES!

It didn't hurt as bad as my allergy shots! I laid on the table, he said it would pinch and then sting, it did both and then I could hear the Fluid going in. Then it was done and he gave me a bottle of Water and some crackers and had me eat. I was fine and he told me it might be later in the day or even tomorrow before I felt any different.

He said if I wanted I could come back in 2 weeks for my second fill. OMG I was so happy.

I went to Splash Country,:Banane30: at Dollywood with my Grandchildren and my daughter and was fine all day, I did have a little more pain in the port area, but not bad. I still got on all the waterslides! :o FUN!

At dinner tonight I was only able to eat a small portion of my "child's plate" OMG! That made me feel so happy!

Hope you all get to start the fills soon! I was beginning to get discouraged, but this is giving me a new outlook again! It feels like when I first got the band and was swollen!

Yeah! for the BAND!

Yeah! for the BAND!

If that was the same seminar that my surgeon was to in Washington DC a week or so ago, there must've been tons of them there!

I'm so jealous you got a fill already, I was banded one day before you and have to wait til the 14th. Oh well, I am just beginning to feel hunger once in awhile and am losing at a good clip, so will hang in there. I'm kindda tempted to call and see if I can get it sooner though.

I have the realize band too and my doc hasn't said anything about doing fills sooner with that band. I am confused and don't know what difference it makes what band you have...I thought the waiting period was just for healing. I get first fill July 15. I guess I wonder now...if people are having fills in just a few weeks are they already eating regular food too?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
