Is this good weight loss??

Recommended Posts

I was banded on January 29, 2008. I have now lost over 40 pounds. When some people ask how much have I lost by now thay say that they know someone who has lost much more. I think over 40 pounds is great, but is it??

Who cares how much other people lose? If you didn't have the band, would you have lost 40 pounds in less than 5 months? Doubtful.

Don't worry about them. They're just jealous.

40 pounds is wonderful and you have to remember that EVERYONE is DIFFERENT!!! My Dr fusses if we lose too much between visits..he says 2-3 pounds a week TOPS..anything more is unhealthy!!! Keep up the good work and dont get discouraged...remember you did this for YOU and not for the folks next door or down the street...trying to keep up with the "jones" gets everyone in trouble!!!

I think you are doing great. You have lost weight that should be gone forever. Don't let other people compare you to others. We all lose weight at different rates!

Hi Petphoto

Next time some idiot says "I know someone who has lost more than you" just say "that's a coincidence, because I know someone who is prettier, smarter and richer than you"

I bet that'll shut em up!

Banded December 27, 2008..

I'm older.. 49, and knew my weight loss would be slowwwwwwwwwww

I'm down between 30-35 pounds.. and that's so much better than where I would have been!

I haven't been exercising like I need to.. but my food choices are amazing.. even to me!

40 lbs in 6 months is about 1.5 lbs per week. The average weight loss with the band is 1-2 lbs per week, so you are right on target.

How much and how fast a person loses weight is very individual, based on how much you had to lose to begin with and what your particular metabolism is like, among other things. Like the others said, don't worry about comparing yourself to others.

I fretted about my slow weight loss for a long time. But I settled down and realized this wasn't about fast weight loss, and my loss was still a lot faster than it ever was when I was dieting, plus I haven't gained it back. You're doing great! Keep up the good work.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
