Hello everyone. As my title says I am new to the forum and nervous. I have delt with overweight since I was a teenager. At this time I am out of control. I have decided that the lap band is the best option for me. And I feel like one thing has lead to another and now things seem to be moving fast. I am going to a seminar on saturday and the actual doctor who will be doing the procedure will be there. I already know the cost it is 18,000 that covers the surgery and 1 year of visits. Also a nutritional and therapy visit at the begining. I called my insurance to see if they cover the procedure I have blue cross blue shield illinois. They said the doctor has to call them and tell them it is medical necessary. Who would have this if it was not medical necessary????? Anyhow they said I had to pay my deductable and they would cover 90%. So that is a bit of relief I feel sure I will qualify. Even if my insurance does not pay I will get the money if I have to refinance the house and use the equity. I look forward to making new friends and getting lots of advice.

AutumnLeaf,

I like your sense of determination. Your doctor sounds more expensive than most US doctors that I've heard of. I'm in California where you'd expect it to be more expensive, but mine is about $15,000. I think other states are even less. Happy Day that your insurance picks up most of the tab. Good luck as you start through all the pre-op stuff. It takes a lot of time, but it gives you the assurance you are healthy enough to do this and it gives you a chance to learn more about it as you prepare. Best of Luck!

Hey Autumnleaf,

Where are you in Virginia. We used to live in Quantico. I loved the area. Man I miss Potomac Mills. LOL Great that the insurance is going to pick up majority of the tab. That should be good for your wallet. The people in this forum are very helpful and friendly. You'll find all kinds of advice.

Hope the process is fast for you.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
