My situation is a little complicated...i am trying to get it done on the nhs, and am waiting for a date to see the consultant (after my doc reluctanly referred me, literally had to fight for it:but thats a whole other story!), in talking to other people who have had it done on the nhs, i could be put on a waiting list for up to three years!! So in the meantime while im waiting for the nhsappointment, ive seen a private consultant and have booked the op for sept 1st. So between now and then if i see the nhs consultant and he gives me good news and the waiting list isnt so bad i will cancel the private op. Im just praying that the list isnt that long!!

but either way im getting it done, hopefully sooner rather than later

Did you self pay or nhs? How you feeling?....next week will be here in no time!!

Hi gg2007, Whoop Whoop for the UK! where you having your band fitted? Nhs or self pay? I am having mine done next Thur (12th)!

I am feeling fine about it! Did you know you can now pick the hospital you have your treatment at? The wait at Chichester is 5 months form your initial surgical consultation. The had a back log so I have had to wait 6 but it flew by! I had my surgial evaluation on Dec 8th 2007.

Hey!

I didnt know that you could pick the hospital!! Thats really good! I really do hope that the appointment with the consultant comes through before sept, i think 4 months is more than enough time to wait to for an appointment letter. Fingers crossed the appointment comes through before sept, if the waiting list is under a yr, i will wait.

what kinda things do they ask you at the surgical evaluation? and how long did you have to wait for teh initial referral from your doc to get an appointment?

I think it was only 3 months or so for the initial surgical appointment, not long so theoretically speaking its aprox an 8 month wait. They have specialist facilities too. They asked about my curent diet previous weightloss attempts that kinda thing it was more to see if I was a suitable candidate. They also showed me the lapbad they we going to put in. it was very cool and they were all very nice.

Thats not bad at all, i just hope the waiting time is the same in london, the doc actually referred me to three hospitals, so hopefully i should hear back sooner rather than later.

the consultation seems pretty straight forward, did they ask you to loose any weight before surgery...? Anyways im gonna send you a PM im hijacking the waxing thread for myself lol lol

Miss Wilde:

Thank you so much for the information! Wow, I think I've been scared straight (or scared hairy in this case.) I've never been much of a girly girl and so a lot of this stuff is new to me. I'm in my 40's and only had my first pedicure a couple years ago. I have lots of "girlish" friends but some ignorance you just don't want to admit to friends!

So should we start an "embarassing questions you don't want to ask friends" thread? :biggrin2:

Thanks again!!!

Hi Jetti,

A wax normally lasts between 3 to 6 weeks really depends on the person we all grow our hair at diffrent rates! Your could have it done now and see how you look before your holiday :wink2: It may not need redoing you might get away with a quick tidy up with some tweezers!

TWEEZERS!!! Pardon my language but ARE YOU SHITTIN ME?!?!?! I would sooner tidy up with a razor or machete before I use tweezers. If im going to yank the hair out it sure as hell wont be one at a time!!!

well I was a big girl yesterday and called and made an appointment for Saturday to get a bikini wax and I told the girl if I can talk myself into it I will do the Brazillian but I will see how that goes . If im not ready for another trip before vacation - which is one month from now - then I will just figure something else out.

thanks for all your help Kiki. ohh one more question :) do they wax the hair under your belly button on your belly? or am I the only one with this hair??!?!?! :confused2:

I don't think I'd ever get waxing down under lol. I just shave and I am happy with that though it can be annoying.

As for hair under the belly button I have that. I think a lot of girls do. Hehehe.

I'd say normal body waxing or they wax or shave it themselves. I dunno.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
