Is anyone's surgeon this strict with post-op eating plan???

:smile2:

Help! I was banded 5/23, and my surgeon says -

- two weeks Clear Liquids, then

- two weeks full liquids, then

- weeks 5 - 9 mushies

I know I need to do what he says, but was/is anyone's surgeon this strict about moving to soft foods? I didn't have a pre-op diet, just Clear Liquids the day before.

Every post I have seen has people moving to food faster than this.

Thanks so much! I love this place!

yup--mine has about the sam plan. it is fustrating, especially during the full liquid stage but they have their reasons so I am doing it. i was banded 5/12--it gets easier with each passing day.

Thanks, Can Hardly Wait! I think when I get to full liquids I will do better. I don't even feel hungry, just in the mood to eat, KWIM?

My Dr. had me on the same plan. It wasn't fun, but I'm glad I did it. Solids too soon after surgery can cause damage to your pouch and to the band. The flap of stomach they sutured over the band needs to heal in place and having to deal with chunks of food can cause slippage and can interfere with the healing process.

Anyway, that's what I was told. Hang in there! It will be over before you know it! It's frustrating as all get out, but it really will be better for you in the long run. GOOD LUCK!

My diet:

2 weeks preop: liquids

Post op 0-3: clear liquid

Days 3-7: full liquid

Day 8-3 weeks: pureed/mechanical soft (I think this is what most call mushies)

4-8 weeks soft

Sorry about that I hit the wrong button, but anyway

I was 2 weeks pre-op liquids

1-2 weeks post-op clear liquids

2-4 weeks post-op liquids (cream Soups, be careful of the calories, NO SOLIDS)

4TH WEEK

Mine was similar to yours. I felt really good about it because it helped to ensure that I healed properly. It is important to me that my band last a lifetime so I wanted to give it every opportunity to heal in place. It was tough but I am happy I followed through.

Mine was full liquid day after surgery for 2 weeks. Then mushy for 1 week. Then as tolerated food in general

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
