Hey guys, I finally cracked the hour for 10K. I did last Sunday's 10K in 59.43. I have had a huge improvement in my running since my small unfill, so glad I did it.

I nearly got arrested on the way to the race, lol. Got onto the tram (parked a fair way away from the race because all the roads closed and you cant get out to go home!) and got a tram down St Kilda Rd. Ticket machines are on the trams, only I didnt realise they were coin only - I never catch public transport anymore, I drive everywhere. I only had a $5 note, and onto the tram comes a ticket inspector. I copped a $50 fine, ack. Oh well, I'll know next time to take exact money. I'd hate to be a tourist in Melbourne, what with our Citylink tolls and the complicated exact money ticketing system on the public transport, you'd end up with $500 in fines just trying to get from your hotel room!

Anyway did the race, nearly froze my tits off, it was 3 degrees C and I was half an hour early and had to stand around for an HOUR in a thin top and running tights.

Then on the way home I got rearended in Toorak Rd, lol. I stopped coz the arrow turned red and this young guy in an old car hit me from behind, not hard, so it was fine. Only it wasnt his car and he wasnt an insured driver so I made sure to get the registration number!

You look great! I didn't see any jiggle. Wow...you look like a lifelong professional runner!

Please keep your fingers crossed that the PS allows me to start running SOON!

Congrats on the 10km time Jacqui!

My fingers and toes are crossed for you Karri.

I've been a lazy slob and haven't run in weeks. I suck.

You look fab! Congrats on the time. That's pretty dammed cool.

But seriously, do you wanna see thigh jiggle?

Me running the MDC (yeah, I brought the photo, DH wanted his, and it was only a couple of bucks more to buy all 4 pics, lol, I am usually too cheap. And vain, I don't want to know what I look like, somehow I am far more graceful in my mind, my reality is so ugly!)

Lookit that thigh wobble! LOL

You are very kind She. I just prefer how I look in my head to how I really look out there on the road.

For some odd reason, when I "see" myself running, I am always sleek, powerful and graceful, nothing like the huffing, panting, dripping wet, plodder I am!

Lol, yes the image in my head is an olympic athlete!

But I let myself down by actually singing Abba songs aloud during that race. I realised I was doing it when I started to get funny looks!

But yeah, really we're hard on ourselves. When you think where we've come from, to look normal - jiggles and all - is good enough for me!

Do you know Chickie, that that's what I really love about running. That hour of positive affirmations and postive self image (even if it's fantasy) is such a healthy thing for self image, I think. It gives you a respect for your body that's quite separate to how it looks and it gives you a way of looking at your body that is not so judgemental. Its how you FEEL that really matters after all.

You look great though Chickie! And when in doubt, just run in front of someone much bigger than you wearing pink, lol.

LMAO, I can imagine the looks you got. I have been known to sing loudly (and badly) when on the treadmill :wink2: I am yet to slip up in public, but my time will come.

I agree. It's not a bad thing to see yourself as an athlete when you are running. It's not so much about how I look, but how I feel. I feel strong, powerful, graceful and lithe. It sadly doesn't trasnlate to how I look 100%, but that few K's I pound out, I AM all of the above, regardless of how I really do look.

Thank you muchly LJM and Jachut.

I didn't want to have to buy ANOTHER ipod to use the nike +. I have 2 ipods already, but not a nano. The sportbands aren't in Australia yet, so I got mine off ebay, but it worked out to only be about $60 I think. Its a great option for anyone who doesn't want to have to fork out for an ipod. I don't have the nike shoes either. Lovely Ang from this forum sent me a lacelid to put the sensor on my shoe :wink2:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
