BCBS of MICHAGIAN PPO

Recommended Posts

Hellooo Family. I was just wondering who has had an experience with BCBS of Michigian PPO. Are they hard to deal with when it comes to approval??? My bariatric coordinator called me & said she called them for insurance approval for the Lapband for me & they told her they don't do pre-approval, which that is what they told me also. So the coordinator said that they want her to mail in all of my information ( 6 month weigh-ins, physic evaluation, & PCP office notes supporting my failed weight attempts) to them. So what happens when they receive my information?? I am totally confused:confused:!!!

I hate BCBS of Michigan. I have good news and bad news.

The bad news....Legally they only have 45-60 business days to make a decision and get back to you. Long story short they took 84 business days to get my decision. They kept telling me and Lap Band Solutions that they do not do pre-approvals and I have coverage for that service. My benefits stat that I have coverage if I meet x...y...z criteria. Lap Band Solutions and was trying to get an approval from BCBS saying I met those criteria. It was a very frustrating process and I called both them and Lap Band Solutions daily. I also went so far as to file a complaint with the Department of Insurance in Michigan.

The good news.....They did approve me. They approved me on April 30th and I had my surgery on May 12th. I am a little sore, but overall doing great. I would do it over again in a heartbeat.

My advise to you is hang in there. It sounds like you are at the beginning of the process, it will be long, but don't give up. Feel free to email me anytime you have questions.

Christina

Come on over, there is plenty of room for you!!!!

I will pray for you daily that you do not have to go throught what I went through. I wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy.

What state do you live in? Do you know what kind of pre-op diet your doctor is going to put you on?

My pre-op diet was awesome. For Breakfast I could have a scrambled egg and toast. For lunch I could have a lean meat and a green vegtable. For an afternoon snack a protien shake, and for dinner a protien shake. The doctor said they didn't care what order I had them in, so I could have Breakfast for dinner or dinner for lunch. As long as I was getting in those 4 small meals it did not matter when in the day I had them. It was really great!!!! After day 2, I was fine. I could sit with others that were eating and just drink my shake. Also, I only had to be on it for 1 week. In that week, I lost 14.6 lbs. I was so excited.

Keep me posted on your progress and I will be praying for you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
