  1. 1. Do you drink soda?

    • Yes- my doctor says it's okay
    • Yes- but my doctor says not to
    • No- because my doctor says no
    • No- but not because of the band, just cause I don't like it

My physician, also in fort Worth, told me that the carbonation would cause your little stomach pouch to stretch, that you would not feel bad in any way when drinking sodas, but would stretch out your stomach above the band, defeating the purpose of the surgery, and nothing that a fill could correct

Its funny you post this because I had a sip of soda today.

I couldn't help myself. I really am not a huge fan of soda at all but orange soda is my absolute favorite! I've actually never had anything but diet soda anytime I would drink it so it was never a huge thing that contributed massive amounts of calories to my diet before surgery.

When I had some this afternoon I added 3/4 cup of Water to it and it was a little bit flat anyway.... but I took 3 sips and felt very full right away. I think that may be why we're not supposed to drink it. It has no caloric value or anything so why get full on soda?

I was off for 2 months and now I'm back. My doc said it wouldn't affect me if it didn't hurt when I drink it....So I do. But still trying to cut down. Don't keep it in the house!

I was a huge Diet Coke person before my surgery, I had my last one the night before and I haven't one since. Its been 2yrs and 4 months. I have had a diet root beer over sugar free, low fat ice cream for treat, but by that time the fizz is gone out of the root beer.

I really don't miss the diet coke, I use to drink first thing in morning and all night long while working. I just don't miss it anymore. Wish I could say the same about Cookies.< /p>

Honestly, I used to be a major diet coke addict as well. I drank it for Breakfast, lunch, dinner and non-stop in between. I thought I would die when my doctor said I would have to give it up for the band. I used to crave it so bad. Then, one day I had a small sip of my hubby's and was shocked. I didn't like the taste, texture or anything anymore. Now I don't miss it at all.

I used to be the same drank tons of Diet coke. But decided after the ban to give it up as well as beer as did not wnat any complications as wanted this to work right. I think giving up hte Diet Coke adn the caffine was harder thne the Beer. LOL

I used to drink Diet Dr. Pepper.

One day at a casino, my husband went to get me a tea. He forgot & got Diet Dr. Pepper. I didn't realize it & took a big drink.

It hurt soo bad.

I'd been banded for almost a year. I know that everyone is different, but I don't think I'd chance it again.

I haven't had coke in over 3 months - OH MY GOD LOL. In saying that - I actually don't miss it which is weird. I'm paranoid that I'm going to do something wrong to my band if I do drink it so I don't. Plus I would have to wait for it to go flat and flat cokes just isn't that great lol. But it does get tiring living on Water, milk, juice, chocolate milk. I'd love more variety =(

Edit* One more thing to add - I think that the amount of sugar in them even if I attempted a sip I would probably feel sick from the amount that's in it - You look at the amount of sugar in a can of coke and you might as well eat 10 teaspoons of sugar.

My doctor asked me again if I was drinking soda and I said occassionally. He said do not drink it, it will cause problems down the road, so I have decided to totally stop and no more cheating with Dr, Pepper, haha!

anyway, I have found those packets that you pour into Water bottles from Wyler's and Chrystal light and I like them. As much as I used to love water, believe it or not, it makes me gag sometimes now. Crazy, isn't it? Good Luck to Everyone, I am just a half pound away from losing 50 pounds and almost under 200!

I just got back from the beach a couple of days ago. It was an annual parrot head event in St. Augustine that included a big cookout on Saturday. They had sweet tea and diet soda so I actually took a diet coke. Opened it, took a sip. GROSS!!! It's been since early January that I've tasted a diet coke and that just didn't taste good to me anymore. So I poured it out and after my meal, I went out to the car and got a bottle of Water out of my cooler.

I didn't give up caffeine completely. In the morning, I make a Vitamin concoction that starts with an effervescent vitamin tablet that is vaguely orange flavored, just not enough to mask the vitamin taste. So I checked out all the varieties of Crystal Light. There is a line called "Focus" and a flavor in that selection called "Natural Citrus Splash". Tastes good, and strong enough to mask the vitamin taste. I started adding a tablespoon of Benefiber. Then, one day, I was reading the Crystal Light package and, guess what? "Focus" products have 80 mg of caffeine in the packet (a packet is 2 servings, in case you never noticed). So, I'm still getting some caffeine in the AM and that's not really a bad thing for me.

I'm told it stretches the pouch so I only occasionally drink it. It would be my last choice because of this but I still love the carbonation.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
