Need Advice!! Banded 4/22/08

Recommended Posts

I am a little discouraged. I was losing weight like crazy last week. I have stayed the same weight for nearly 3 days now and I am barely eating. I wish I could eat more, but I am so full, so quick. It takes me two hours to drink my Protein Shake in the morning. I have to double up on the scoops just so I can get in my Protein requirements for the day. I don't eat hit 500 calories a day. I barely pee and I have only had one bowel movement since leaving the hospital.

If I sip a half a cup of Soup, I am full. I have learned not to take one more sip of anything because the pain in my chest is excruciating.

I had to stay two extra days at the hospital right after surgery because my blood sugars needed to be regulated and I have severe gastric reflux. That was really upsetting to me. Especially when I read how many people are out shopping the next day and feel great. Physically I am starting to really feel good, but I don't know why I am not losing anymore if I am barely eating.

Can anyone share their experience with me?

Thanks so much,

Kim

Kim,

Do not fret as odd as it sounds, we need to eat to lose weight. If you aren't eating you are putting your system in starvation mode. You are such a newbie and you do not want to have negative thoughts in your future success.

If it is taking you two hours to drink your Protein shake then so be it. In fact drink that throughout the day. Don't worry about how much you are putting in your body right now, it will eventually come. See if you can eat baby food fruits, the foods are gross. Try eating sugar free puddings and jellos and stick your Protein powder in those. Just try to eat anything that will go down.

I was allowed to eat pureed foods and of course I don' know what your doctor allows but DON"T WORRY, the weight will come off. Giv yourself a chance.

First, stop weighing yourself everyday! At most you should weigh yourself once per week at the same time of day. You'll drive yourself nuts if you do.

Second, you definitely need to drink more Water. Water will help things move along. If you have to sip all day, do it.

Third, every person is different and heals at different rates. I was banded Monday and still have to sleep nearly sitting up because it hurts (pulls) too much to lay down flat.

Gibe yourself a break!!

ok first of all, dont freak out about the stopped weight loss. alot of people either stay at their same weight or gain weight the first month post op so you are already way ahead of the game. you have already lost more weight than me, and i have already had 2 fills!!! the first month is for your band healing, then after your fills, looks at your diet more closely. in my opinion, you need to call your doctor ASAP about the acid reflux and the only 1 bowel movement to make sure that is normal for you. i had Constipation after my surgery, and my surgeon put me on a Fiber supplement, but now i am off of it and back to normal. good luck! and take a deep breath!

OK I agree with you something is wrong. Are your feet and hands puffy? You might have a little infection going on. Did you have a hiatal hernia? I had severe gastric reflux and my hernia was repaired when I had my lapband and I have not had to take any meds. You might already have a band slippage if you were having a hard time at the hospital was vomiting. Please call your Doctor. Best wishes

I was banded the 22nd also. I couldn't poop for 2 days and I was bloated and felt full. I was used to going everyday and wanted to continue that. I wanted to take benefiber but wasn't sure if I should. I called the surgeon and he had me take an enema. I did and felt way better. It got me going and I take benefiber daily in my crystal lite. You can't possibly be putting things in your system without something coming out. (sorry to be blunt or crude). Call you surgeon. He needs to know. mama59

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
