Post-Surgery Check-In

Recommended Posts

Went back to work today. A little tired but, hanging in there, nothing to worry about. My port site is really where I hurt the most. Still having the gas pains in the shoulder. Not as bad but, still there. I've been walking hoping it will help. I'm sure with time. You should be OK to go back to work just ensure you get your rest in between moving around. :)

I am happy that all of the fellow may bandsters are doing well and that the recovery time has been excellent. I have only taken 5 days off until I go back to an active on the feet for 12 hour shifts. Cant wait till the 15th :)

Great to hear you are doing well feelgoodagain. Did you talk to your doctor about the port site? I have heard other people say that they talked to their doctor and asked them not to have the port near where their bra might be. Any problems with wearing a bra? (don't mean to get too personal!!) :)

Terri, I think everyone is alittle sorer..is that word?..ha. Anyway, My port site is really about right in the middle between my bra line and my waist line. So, its pretty much right in the middle. I think it is where I bend the most. But, I am sure it will get better with each day. Tomorrow is a week since surgery and I can't believe what I am able to do already. I don't see my doc until next Friday. I am actually coming down with a pretty bad sore throat so, I think I will be calling the nurse tomorrow to find out if I need antibiotics...My throat hurts so bad. I thought at first it was because of the tube they put in your throat during surgery but, it keeps swelling up and i also have a cough...which can be painful sometimes. But, I am at work and for the most part things are all good. Just taking it a little slower then usual. :frown:

Glad to hear you are doing well! I heard someone comment that when they have to cough, they cough while holding a pillow to their abdomen. Of course, you can't carry a pillow around with you everywhere (or maybe you can!!), but it should help at home! Let me know if it works!~ :frown:

I was banded Monday 5/5/08 - I told the group I was with that we were called the Shrinko de Mayos. They loved it. Spent the night in the hospital, and home by 4 pm the next day. Today I got to have Protein. Walked around the block today. Feeling pretty good except sore when I get up or go to sit back down. Looking forward to a new life. But I don't really feel like I have a band yet. But I am staying to small amouts of liquids. Not sure if thats the band or just not feeling up to eating yet.

Got my band yesterday at 10am. Came home at 3p. It went really good, and fast! My main hurt is gas pains in left shlder which radiates into my neck and lower belly. I tried plain tylenol yesterday but had to go back to the prescribed pain med. It knocks me out because of the phenergan in it. I work at home for BCBS so at least I can take interval walks today. I slept in my high bed. Slept pretty well. I woke up feeling a fever, but it was 97.4. I'm praying more fluids will do the trick.

Bit sore, ok A LOT sore. I was first in line for surgery yesterday. But an ER case went ahead of me, so I had to wait a bit longer.

Was home by 2pm ... slept on and off most of the day. Walked around .. I have been drinking Water and had a bit of broth. Gonna try more broth today and less pain meds. LOL

Well, today is day 2 post-op, although it feels like 3 or 4-ha!

Most of my outside belly gas is gone. Felt like I was pregnant again with it moving around. Now I have belly gas. I'm trying to lay off the good pain med so my bowels will wake up. So far, tylenol's doing the trick. Just achy in my left shlder from the gas. Sore and touchy at my port site...which is 2inches up above bellybutton, 2inches to the right. They used super glue for that incision. Then I have 2-4 staples in my other 4. I was able to bend over to sweep into the dust pan!!!

My appetite's coming back just a wee bit so I''m enjoying my Protein Jello and kool-aid. They each have 16gms protein so it keeps my hunger down. My nutritionist wants 40gms consumed this 1st week. I'm glad because the thought of pizza feels really good right now-ha!!

Hey neverB4,

It's my 2nd day, also. All of my cuts were super glued -- no staples! I had the shoulder pain for about 4 hours after surgery, and then it went away! I started massaging my shoulder in the recovery room and didn't stop until it was gone. I don't know if that helped or not, but it felt good. I also feel like I just had a baby, my belly is so big! I'm a little sore, but not in any pain. But gassy!!!! (Stand back, LOL!) Glad to know we are on our way!!!!

I'm home, I survived, and I'm very, very sore. Hocked up on drugs right now so I'll have to right more later. It's hard to type when you're looking at 2 or 3 of the screen!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
