Time for 1st fill and Dr. said no

Recommended Posts

I finally went for my 6 week doctor appointment, expecting to get my first fill. He wouldn't give me a fill because I am losing weight without one.

I am a little disappointed, because I was looking forward to more weight loss. I have really been working hard to lose what I have lost so far.

The doctor said to come back in 6 more weeks.

Should I have been more persistent? If I stop losing before six weeks, should I try to get in sooner for a fill?

Are you hungry? Are you losing by will power alone or do you feel restricted at all? Some people do feel restriction without any fill at all, but I think that is unusual.

IMHO if you are hungry and depending on will power only, then your doctor should have given you a fill. I don't understand the thinking of those who won't fill you if you are losing. If you are hungry and having a hard time I would make sure that your doctor understands that. I wouldn't wait six more weeks if I felt hungry all the time.

Some others may have a different opinion. I'd be curious to hear about it if someone can offer a reasonable explanation for your doctor's policy. I know he isn't the only doctor with that way of thinking, but I'm glad my doc is more flexible.

I told the doctor that I do get hungry and I feel like I can eat pretty much anything with no restriction. However, I don't starve like I would be if I didn't have a band at all.

I'm with Becky on this one. Doc should have given you a fill if you are hungry in 3 hrs or less after a meal, even if you are still losing.

But I can understand their caution -- he probably sees so many people get too tight and that's when things start to go wrong for people. Increased chance of slippage, chronic vomiting, irritated bands & soft food syndrome, etc.

And yes, if you stop losing, make a fill appt without waiting for 6 weeks. I would anyway. If you don't lose for 2 weeks in a row. (1 week with no loss might just be TOM or something)

I had the same problem with my doc. I have had one fill but now eating a little more and getting hungry quicker but since I've lost 46 pounds in 2 months he refused to fill me, didn't want me losing so fast

I SOOO like my fill doc. When I go in the staff takes my history. How much can I eat, what am I eating, how long am I satsfied, am I exercising, do I feel restricted or am I running on will power? THEN they weigh me. My fills depend on the eating habits/restriction, not on the amount I have lost. Although that might be different if I was losing 20 pounds a month, never had that problem. I think that's like - if you lose weight on a 6-mo. pre-op diet, you don't even need the band, cause you can lose weight without it! Sorry, I want my band, and I want it working WITH me, cause I couldn't do this on my own for very long. And my band didn't come with a calandar, it doesn't know 6 weeks from 3 weeks, it just knows when it needs to be tightened.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
