Trouble keeping things down

Recommended Posts

I'm still having a lot of trouble keeping anything down. My new diet, so far, is consisting of lots of Water, tea, juice, pedialite and a little lactaid milk. I'm being closely monitored by my doctor to make sure I'm not getting dehydrated. Most of what goes down still comes right back out. I sure am glad my mom convinced me to take that trusty bucket from the hospital.

My surgery wasn't an easy one by any means. My liver had become so enlarged and fatty from being obese that it took my doctor 1 1/2 hours to complete the surgery. He was very happy and relieved that he did not have to opt for the "open method" during the procedure (as was I). He told me that because of the size of my liver and the trauma on my stomach that I may continue to be swollen for a while yet.

I suppose with all this crazyness of not being able to keep anything down, I have found one upside...I've lost 21 lbs. Granted, it's not quite the way I was going for, but I've gotta find something positive!

You're about at that stage where you're saying to yourself, OMG, what have I done. We all go through that stage, but it does pass and every day gets easier from here.

Keep up the good work and remember a day at a time.

Hi Val, Im from Lake Charles too!

Try having warm liquids instead of cold. Warm things seem to sooth the tummy better then the cold stuff.

Good luck!

Well, things are about the same. I went grocery shopping and bought every kind of beverage known to man! Since I'm not being able to keep anything down, the diet drinks are being replaced with drinks with more calories. That will end as soon as liquids can go down and stay down.

To Paula: I live in Orange. Funny thing, you came to Texas for your surgery and I went to Louisiana for mine. Nice to meet you!

Good luck and I will be watching for your results!

Wow - Val - this has been going on for over a MONTH! How on earth have you stayed hydrated?!?! How on earth have you stayed sane?!?!

You sound like you have a great attitude, but... What does your doc say, now that it's a month later????

(((hugs)))

It's only been a week, actually. I was banded on the first of this month. My doctor is worried about me becoming dehydrated and not getting any nutrition. I'm making an appointment with him for my two week follow up appointment, but he may want to see me earlier than that.

Uh... Yeah, I can read a calendar!! <blush> I could have SWORN your first post was from March 6... What the HECK is the matter with me?!?!

Okay, a week isn't so bad (I know, I'm not the one living it!!) - but I don't feel as worried as I did when I thought this had been going on for a month.

It took a full four weeks for my swelling to completely resolve - I was never as tight as you are, though. I DO believe if you can stick it out all will be well.

(((hugs)))

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
