I am 10 days post op. Some meals I feel restriction, others I do not? Yesterday I was seriously depressed b/c I was eating so much, snacking. Today I ate 1/4th of a smart ones over 2 hrs ago and am still stuffed. I'm wondering if some of it is in my head?? and yes I'm eating solids, since day 5 with no problems.

I dont see doc until 4/30. I was getting very ill and weak on liquids so I started mushys and progressed to solids. You can all yell and tell me how terrible that is, but if I would have had any problems I would have stuck with liquids. I just wondered if anyone else had any days where they felt restricted and then didn't and then did again?

You might want to call your doctor and ask if it's normal to feel restriction on some days and not others. It might be kind of hard for people to answer that question because they are normally still on liquids and mushies during day 10.

maybe you're stretching your band?? just a guess. i'm 7 days out and JUST started Soups, etc. no smart ones. the doc said that if i eat more/less/different than what he says i could make my pouch larger (who wants to do that). can you try sticking with 'real' mushies so that you don't damage it??

Keep in mind that the reason you are supposed to stick with liquids isn't that you are unable to get solids down, but because you are supposed to let your band heal in place where it is stitched to your stomach. "Having problems" isn't a good indicator of when you should progress to solids. No yelling, but a bit of a lecture!

I wasn't on liquids or mushies on day ten either. I was on soft Proteins, though. That is what my doctor advises. So I could eat eggs, chicken, turkey, cottage cheese, refried Beans and low fat/low sugar yogurt. I would be really careful about what you are eating because your band sight is healing and you need it to heal really well because you are going to need it for a long time and don't want to mess anything up. For me, restriction varies from day to day and also at different times of the same day. But please be really careful! Try to eat only soft foods. And try to concentrate on Protein.< /p>

Reenie, I had no problem getting down anything either after my first week. My doc allowed me to go to blended/mushie food on day 9 - but definately no solids until at least 4 weeks. Its about not overworking your stomach. When you eat solids your stomach has to move around a lot more to digest - you don't want this happening until you are all healed up.

Of course its your body so nobody is going to yell at you - just offer some advice that you should be careful with your investment.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
