It's all about the great hands and technique of your Dr. I bruise like crazy but nothing on my back big purple yellow bruise on the port site-they made a 4" cut there because they could not get the port in place. but the 4 little holes are pale pink. Buy some Vitamin E capsules and open them up and put on your wounds. Go back to your Dr. and ask why????that is what you paid him for.

The discolorazation will fade give yourself 6-8 weeks if not then strt barking. They put a tremendous amount of pressure on the scope and do not forget your belly is blown up like a baloon for the scope so you have to have brusing. I was banded March 5th still have some color left on the sites.

one other thing to remember - you most likely got a small injection in your belly before the surgery and again after (if you stayed overnight) - it was a blood thinner which may cause you to bruise more than normal - it is standard of care for bariatric surgery (and other general surgeries too) and the effects are short lived but the bruising may take awhile to go away!

I went for my follow-up today and the surgeon was shocked--he said that he has never seen bruising like mine. He said that it wasn't a problem though. I'm certain that I was banded by a resident, which annoys me only because it was never mentioned as a possibility. Even the prescription I was given was signed by a physician I had never heard of.

Here's my incisions from day two post-op. The lettering all over is my graffitti telling the surgeon where my braline sits, and where I wear the waistbands of my scrubs and my jeans I also wrote AP band ONLY on my belly as well as NO Staples. Well, they wiped off the NO staples, because the surgeon convinced me pre-op why he wanted to use them. I understood and was okay with it as long as I can get them out earlier than two weeks.

I guessing he was shocked to find all of this when they pulled my gown up ;)

I still have some bad rashes from the tape, eek! ITCHY!

hi lap banders ,i love this thread,i am wondering myself about the bruising.I am considering about this surgery(i am almost decided) and i am very scared about the bruising.I had a little surgery at my right breast(it was a litle skin,we thought i was cancer but i was lucky it wasn't) and i was suposse to heal really nice,no scars, but i washed it and in a long bath it felt of and i have a little scar. Now i am thinking that i will probably have the same problem and i am thinking about not washing the incisions and pray for the best. How long does it take to heal of completly?I am planing on going back to the gym after 3 weeks pre-op,i love to exercise,i go to the gym around 3 times a week and i don't want to loose time because of the healing.Hope to hear soon!

hey all,

I really don't care about the bruising and scars,,,lets just get it over with. ARGH

I had allergy tests and the Dr. could not believe how sensitive my skin is,,,I welt up over bandaids, and light adhesive tapes,,, I have had surgery, as recently as last year and can expect to have scars from even the tapes they use.

But since my bikini days are over,,,ha I don't care. I just want the fat gone.

Crystal: It is good to hear you didn't have to battle Cancer! Even the scare is bad enough.. With regards to bruising, scaring, and time away from working out.. I have to be honest, it makes me wonder if you are trying to talk yourself out of the surgery.. If you are, that is fine, but you might want to look deeper to see why.

I don't know how much you need to lose or your overall health, but I can tell you that I would do it all over again even if it took 3 weeks away from work/exercise and caused more scaring. (I'll have to post some early and current scar pics).

Take a look around at the people who have been successful post-op and ask yourself if the journey was worth it for them. There is no reason it can't be as successful for any of us. One of the profound successes is Puddin.. She has a link to her pics in her profile.. Browse those.. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/members/puddin/

My point is that as long as the surgery "does no harm", once you are a year post-op and losing weight month over month, will the time away from the gym matter? Will a couple of scars matter?

Just my thoughts... for what little they are worth..

CP-Mike

Hope this shows up! I was banded 2 days ago. You can still see that nasty yellowish stuff they put all over you. This is all above the belly button. There is nothing below it. Just a bit of bruise from where the nurse poked me :omg:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
