Surgery 5/2 and SCARED, don't know why?

Recommended Posts

You are human & so am I. I am scheduled for 4/23 & I am very nervous!! Could anybody tell me what is the level of soarness (on a scale of 1 to 10). Those of you already banded, were you terribly tender, soar, & in agonizing pain. That is MUCH of what I will be nervous about.

We're all in this together. We are going to make it through, especially with the LORD's help.

Hi, I felt the same way, but I talked to God and some of my Sisters in Christ. One of them told me to sing a gospel song when I went in the back room and I did, and a peace came over me, from then on I was fine. You will be fine, know that God is with you all the way.

soreness? a 4, for about 4 hours, then a 3......for a day, then down to a 1 ....i had more itching, around my steri strips, than soreness.....I know that if you have never had any kind os surgery before it can be scarey......the absolute worst thing for me, after surgery, is the vaseline that they put on your eyelids.....it feels yuckie, and i cant wait to wipe it off!!!!! that is what i always think about, with everything that you go thru, it is the vasaline....so people really focus on different things...the pain, is not anything what you would think, it is done laproscopic (spelling) so it is nothing like surgery....dont be scared, it is easier than going to the dentist!!!! how's that for a comparason??????

Pain is different for everyone. I have fibromyalgia, so sometimes my nerves "over react". There was a dullish ache at first. Getting up out of the bed hurt like heck, but once you get walking, it works itself out. Felt like my guts were going to fall out. I took the tylenol w/codeine gladly. The more you get up and move around right away, the better it is. After about 2 days, I was moving fine. It was difficult to sleep the first few days also. I found piling pillows up at an angle helped for sleeping because I couldn't do so on my sides. By day 5, it was great. remember though everyone is different, so use your own judgement on your pain.

Well, at this time the absolute "panic" has left me, though I'm still a little scared. I want all of you that have replied to my message to know how important you are, especially to me. I am single with no children and my support is somewhat scattered. You guys have been wonderful to me, with great suggestions like doing a project (how 'bout cleaning my house like crazy!!!) and leaning on my faith in God which has helped me tremendously. The comfort and support is awesome and it has calmed me and lifted my spirits. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I will report back in as I get closer and after my surgery. I don't actually know you guys, but I love you anyway!!! Thanks from Texas!

Liq Tylenol with Codeine was my best friend!!!

I was feeling fine in 1 week. I also had the itchiness around the sites.

If you have ever had Gallbladder surgery...same thing.

I had that under my belt so I had an idea of what to expect.

At one point in time you are going to think "why did I do this!"

But the soreness will pass. get used to sleeping on your back for at least 2 weeks, use the pillow techinique Queenie mentioned, definately helped.

Soon enough you will forget you ever had the suegery.

My surgery is 5/2 as well so I guess we are in it together! Do you have a pre-surgical liquid diet? Mine started today! I have to say I am kind of hungry but I am going to stay strong.......

kidd, you are the 2nd person I have head that is doing a liq pre-op diet.

I did a Kaiser pre-op 1200 calorie diet and it was actually pretty easy to follow, but I have always been curious about Optifast or other Liq diets, hope it goes well for you!!

Saqueen, very well said indeed!!!! (post #15)

For me it was a small risk for surgery opposed to a big risk of shortening my quality of life w/o surgery. Living an obese life posed more risk to me than going for surgery and getting my life back! Every year we get older and every year the weight stays on or we gain more. That is as life threatening as it gets. If we were to stay obese we are shortening our lives immensely and killing our quality of life. I want to get my life back and enjoy it, that's why I did the surgery. I had a lot of doubts and worries before surgery too, especially the week just before (cuz I knew it was gonna happen) but still, the positives out weighed the negatives. Thank goodness for my family's support. Without them I don't know where'd I'd be.

5 weeks post op and loving life more everyday!!! I too would do it again; already feel like a brand new person

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
