A lapband story I found on CNN

Recommended Posts

This is an old story, and I bet it made the rounds here last summer when it first came out, but I know that there are a lot of "newbies" here who will find it just as interesting, and thought-provoking as I did...not sure if I agree or not...does anyone know which doctor did this surgery?

My opinion is that mother is an idiot. She feels that all of the pre-testing is unnecessary, just put the band on her 12 year old daughter? IDIOT!

She even said her daughter is a compulsive eater, yet she didn't want her to have a psyc evaluation because it was just more money to pay. WTF?

It wouldn't surprise me if this young girl is unsuccessful with her band. I saw something the other day with people who had lost a lot of weight but didn't deal with the underlying emotional problems had turned to alcohol and/or drugs to replace the food addiction.

poor little girl. Hideous. Tummy Tuck? Lipo? How about buying her a basketball, or some other sports equipment instead of low cut shirts. How about helping her with some talk therapy? Its obvious where her mother is placing the importance in her life. 'Its just more money?'

Christ.

I wish there was an update on that girl's story. It has made the rounds here a couple of times, and I wonder if that girl was able to do okay with it despite her mom.

Ahhhh. I understand it now. I googled "Brooke Bates" and found a lot of links. After looking at a few of them, the mother should be shot.

After the Lipo, guess what? The mother and the 68 year old plastic surgeon, the self proclaimed "biggest fat sucker in Texas" have written a book! Why am I not surprised?

There is a long interview from Good Morning America with her and her mother. Why would a mother let a 12/13 year old girl dress that way? Micro mini's, low cut tight tshirts, push up bra's. What's up with that?

I'm sure in another year or so, we'll see headlines something like "14 year old girl get's DD breast implants." And of course, a movie and a second book.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
