Getting sick while banded Sick and Spewing

Recommended Posts

This is the third time I've gotten sick while being banded...pnemonia/flu.

When I live in extremely cold climates this happens to me. New England now Utah....all this snow!

Anyways, get your fluids in if you think you are getting sick. I can't even drink because my band seems to get really tight.

I'm on maintenance yet I am spewing my fluids again.

Hydration is so important with the band. Drink your Water and if you don't like water...anything is better than nothing. Stay away from alcohol as it causes dehydration in the cells.

Anyone else have this happen to them? Sick and spewing?

Any idea on how I can get some fluids in...w/o going to the ER for an IV?

Grace,

This is something that I fear. I haven’t been sick since banding last March. But I would try Mary’s advice and try sucking on popsicles and ice chips. Good luck and hope you feel better soon

Since I've had this band for quite awhile know there is nothing I fear more then vomiting with the band. I do not have the anti nausea stuff that others seem to have so if you can get that I would. But I have lived through the puking. But honest its the scariest thing ever. The band just doesn't want it to come up (sorry to be graphic here). So it lasts so much longer than a normal vomiting episode would be. I'm soo scared its gonna slip the band but nothing I can do you know.. body just takes over. Anyways happy to report this band can take a beating. No slippage in 5 years. So I wouldn't worry too much with being sick. But yeah..it sucks!

I was vomiting before Christmas and yes it is disturbing. There was nothing in my pouch and whatever the stomach was trying to reject, just did not come up. So the heaving was just for not. But as Dibaby said, the body just takes over and there is nothing we can do.

I DID however, find it helpful to drink hot Water. It seemed to sooth things down.

I hope your symptoms go away quickly.

Hugs

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
